i want to know more about the more obscure territories
the stars, the styles, the owners, notable matches, anything
everybody knows about memphis, WWWF, JCP, GCW, midsouth, etc. but what was going on in like all star wrestling (vancouver), or PNW/portland, or big time wrestling (san fran), or northland wrestling, or atlantic grand prix wrestling, or anything in the southwest
nooticing now that most of these are in the west, wrestling never seemed to be as big in the west as it was in the east (which is ironic given that it feels like half the shit WWE runs today is in LA or vegas)

The obscure topics I'd like to hear covered are pretty niche, but nobody's ever really covered the details. We need more people talking about these things.

There’s a lot of Portland wrestling available and it’s all from Buddy Roses VCR. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLguf0vR5vy85Ln9dovOK8EPogYIQ8hoQS&si=pTBCzp7PADQhqPG9
The only other more obscure territory I’ve seen significant footage from is Lutte Internationale, a French Canadian territory that used a lot of AWA talent but also guys from all over America. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLML5Xu7Y30Fr9AA3Y1V0TVGzHF0ZSZhgj&si=ckXN7AAPYBp82z16
If you’re more of a physical media guy an Important Very Person has a bootleg blu Ray or Portland and several dvds of Lutte.

Memphis is a lot of fun. Not to be disrespectful but it’s kinda the chikara of the territories. A little more outlandish and many of the guys are on the shorter side and just kinda look like dudes you would know instead super star athletes. You can find the dvdvr project on YouTube unfortunately no playlist

>80s Lucha
Lucha was banned on TV in Mexico until the early 90s. Most of the stuff that made tape was EMLL shows recorded for broadcast in the US or for commercial tapes. The other big promotion in Mexico at the time (UWA) has even less surviving footage. That being said, you should watch these:

I've always wanted to watch some Big Time Wrestling just so I could shoot more shit with my Dad. I just know names from the territory but couldn't tell you a goddamn thing that ever actually happened there as far as angles are concerned.

its the ultimate cocktease, its so close to being 90s ajpw that your brain frequently gets tricked into thinking its gonna get to watch 90s ajpw but you are never actually watching 90s ajpw so you end up very frustrated. i havent experienced anything like it when watching noah, i think the green mat helps. the blue mat + korakuen hall is an intense trigger

I’ve watched a lot of Japanese wrestling. I guess I would need to know what you like about American wrestling? There’s a lot of variety in Japanese wrestling, if you like haha jokey stuff there’s DDT and HUSTLE but they are vastly different products. Death matches there’s big Japan and fmw, who again are very different, and even 90s big Japan is completely different than they were in the late 2000s.

What I like most about American wrestling are the angles and storylines that build to big matches

I am quite interested in the Inokiism era of New Japan, and not because I like puro or the promotion, afaik it was a massive low point, but rather because I'm a huge mark for Pride FC and the wonder world of Japanese MMA.
So, as I understand it, the basic rundown is that Inoki being a shooter himself, got obsessed with Mixed Martial Arts when it started drawing big, and restructured New Japan to have fighters come in and squash his guys?
Yuji Nagata's MMA record makes me giggle every time. What the fuck was Inoki thinking? He was like a top guy or champ right I heard it permanently affected his career because Inoki thought he let them down.

Watch the UWF invasion angle. It's great - chaotic and exciting and one of the few things that made my heart beat faster while watching. Here you can watch it start to finish:

Inoki was obsessed with shooting. The guys in the Inoki dojo in California were told to take mma fights even though they had no training just so they would know what a fight feels like. I dont disagree with it from that perspective.
Pure head canon on my part but I think Inoki thought strong style was a shoot and that all these European kickboxers and Soviet sambo guys put him over as an acknowledgement of his superior skill and not because wrestling money was so much bigger than martial arts money. So when guys he or his friends trained came up short in shoots, to much more well rounded martial artists in the 2000s, it was because they were soft and lacked discipline and not because a flying enziguri isn’t an effective technique
