Real talk: AEW and its disastrous consequences for the wrestling industry are proof of the exact opposite
If Tony R. Khan played videogames all day, he wouldn't be smothering any possiblity of a wrestling alternative to emerge by overpricing talent and encouraging their worst creative instincts
If all those people stayed home or were employed by sombody who actually needed to earn a dime to pay them, the world would be a better place

lmao like what
The source of Khan's fortune is fairly passive, it's not exactly a giant business conglomerate they're running over there
Besides, I'll tell you what, even if he was destined to run a complex intricate business (into the ground), I don't give a shit about automobile patents or whatever the fuck, but I give a shit about wrestling
So you and him can both go fuck each other becasue you share the same dimwitted view that there's nothing serious about it
Meanwhile the main player in this business he "fucks around with" is worth twice as much as the passive trust he will inherit "serious reponsabilities" in lmao

When WWE was changing AEW was doing closer to a milly, though.
Look at the SD ratings now also - they're almost falling below a million too.

Yeah AEW was closing in on a milly back then but it was already only down from there, and again I'm fairly certain the massive changes at almost every post of authority and Vince going away were more crucial to these changes than AEW, and these changes would probably have happened regardless because WWE is publicly listed, shareholders always want more
But maybe they also reacted more to it than I give it credit for

So is RAW, though. But we can't check their ratings the "old way" because of how Netflix works - still, it's safe to assume it's falling down around the same pace as SD.
Let's not forget the Fiend vs Seff Red HIAC match. This really put a lot of people from the WWE bracket into AEW bracket. Some returned, some didn't, but WWE had to at least switch things up from that moment.
Let's not think WWE doesn't think about AEW at all, they did enough references and shots to know they actually do care.

Thing is you should exclude 2002-06 because it's the natural bust of the bubble that was born from the monday night war, wrestling all around was hot then, WCW only really declined in 99 and fueled WWE further but trends like that never last, wrestlign was just fashionable and fit in perfectly with the momentary zeitgeist, complete outlier data
Then for 2010 onwards, you can put it right next to the cable decline curve
There's just an incompressible core of fans, you don't draw ratings of 500k while you sell out arenas of 16k for a RAW taping.

Eeeh, it's either gonna be hot potato or another long ass reign that can only switch on a ppv.
If GUNTHA wins the big one I might watch for a bit again though.
For now, I stick to ppvs and I skip most of them anyway, watching it live I'd kill myself if I had to sit through 3-4+h of live WWE wrestling.

Didn't Gablemeister get injuried and is out for a few months now?
Honestly most people I like from WWE are either jobbers or upper midcard jobbers, I for one don't give a flying shit about Cena's turn and last run since it's been boring since day 1, CM Punk's drama, Seff being a faggot as he is, dozens of random Coconuts and Timmy Tongas
I do like GUNTHER (gotta say I stopped watching WWE completely when Jey beat him and only tuned in when he won the title back again), Pentagon, LA Knight, Gable, Jeff Cobb (sadly being stuck in Coconut Theater), AJ Styles, Drew, Dominik too. But the way they're used most of the time, I just can't give a flying shit.
I kinda like Bronn too but being put with Seff makes me not watch him.

Don't know how long he'll be out, hope it's not long, but if it is, I think they'll put the rocket on this time. Or not because they're a bunch of idiots but they really, really, really should do it, cause it would be awesome.
I have basically the same list of guys I like, but I tolerate the fact that they're not where I think they should be on the card because most of them are just that good regardless. Worlds collide also made me curious about what they'll do with AAA.
It's still WWE, and it's still frustrating to follow, but they just have a lot of guys I like now. And Vaquer, goddamn, I want to see her win the big one too.

I don't think they'll do anything important with Gable once he comes back. I wish they did though, even a simple US/IC title reign, even a short one, would make me happy.
Gable is one of the rare cases of "give him anything and he'll make it work" while still being very good and believable in the ring. I love his delayed german suplex, one of the best moves in the biz right now.
>but I tolerate the fact that they're not where I think they should be on the card because most of them are just that good regardless
Yeah, I tolerate the fact they're all not world champions at the same time, that's not the problem. Problem is with guys like Drew or Knight who are only being built up to job on a ppv, and then the cycle restarts. Hard for me to fully get into it.
>Worlds collide also made me curious about what they'll do with AAA.
Obviously, because AAA actually has gimmicks for most wrestlers so by default it feels fresh as fuck. And it's no wonder Mr. Iguana got over instantly, WWE is missing those gimmicks, even if they're silly as shit. Not everyone needs to be SUPER CEREAL wearing black leather jackets. I know Triple H thinks it's good, and it might be, but not when half of your roster does that and it's not the 90's in ECW anymore (though I wish it was).
I give a pass to AJ as he's been using a leather jacket since his TNA days.
>It's still WWE, and it's still frustrating to follow, but they just have a lot of guys I like now.
That's true, I can now look at the roster and at least list some guys I like. But the overall show still doesn't make me want to watch it weekly. And I personally don't care about women's wrestling, unless it's done like in ECW.
>Thanks for the civil talk, it's not everyday around here lmao

>don't think they'll do anything important with Gable once he comes back
I think they might, he may not be in the current main event scene but they feature him everywhere, have him work every show, and he organically got really over despite not being presented all that seriously in the prior years. I think people can see the talent, can see the work, can see the guy behind, and I think HHH & co. do too because they keep him on all the time. Last month they had him work Raw, worlds collide, MITB, Raw again, they've used him as their point man to get their luchadors over for a big market push years in the making... and he managed to get himself over too. I think he'll actually get it, and I think if they do it there will barely be any buildup to it, it just wouldn't work as well if he won it at mania after 6 months of milking it.
Completely agree with the atmosphere AAA can bring.
I don't give a shit about women wrestling either, but Vaquer is one in ten billion, she's incredible to watch. She'd have made it in ecdub, or anywhere at any time really. actually had to trudge through mexican indies, japan, and cmll to get there, so she did make it everywhere.

>she's incredible to watch
I can't argue that she has a great ass. One time I got two friends I was drinking with at night and we randomly stumbled upon NXT and two of my friends, who never watched wrestling before, were instantly into it and started acting like coomers. I guess that's the draw. We didn't watch beyond that random women's match though.
>Yeah tell me about it lol
Ironically the best discussion I saw on /pw/ lately was in some random ECW threads. They usually don't hit the post cap but it's way more civil for some reason.

Yeah threads about old stuff in general are why I keep coming, if it doesn't die in 12 posts it's pretty good
Gable will get it and if he doesn't, me and my friend mark we're gonna stop watching again brother
Vaquer isn't just a great ass, try her NXT run sometimes, she's the best in-ring storyteller ever born with no dick lol
hits hard, bumps hard, never botches and actually moves fast. She can jump on the top rope and balance instantly, or springboard to the outside on it, uses the spiral tap, sells better than Ricky Morton and always gets the crowd going, just a joy to watch

Brother, we're in the same boat then.
>spiral tap
Alright, you got my interest. I barely saw anyone do that in my life and I loved when Styles did it in TNA. iirc he said he can't really do it anymore in a perfect way so he's not even attempting to do it.

I won't spoil you the move then, but it's good stuff all around, she's like an old fashioned territory babyface, the crowds root for her harder than anybody else on the roster, it's quite incredible

Lies.

He earned that cease and desist from the kennel club (that one time we know of). And something tells me it's not the first or the last he's been kicked out of.
