>0-4-1 mma record before he even tried to fight Ryan Gracie
>1-2-2 in kickboxing
Was he really still considered tough with that record before losing?
I found the fight on jewtube, it didn't look that humiliating - he got submitted after over 8 minutes of gay grappling. Sure he got dominated, but by a guy who actually had way more experience with submissions and mma in general.

That is not the fight anon, that is a later fight in a pro organisation.
This was him going to the Gracie gym before the first UFC because they had a rep in martial arts magazines. The Gracies subsequently became massive stars in Japanese MMA lol.

But then Sakuraba, a shoot style pro-wrestler, went on to dominate and embarrass the Gracies. So much so even the Gracie who beat up Anjo refused to fight him.

>In December 1994, Anjo was involved in a famous incident with Brazilian jiu-jitsu master Rickson Gracie. After Gracie declined to work with UWF International, Yoji travelled to California along with executive Shinji Sasazaki and a huge Japanese press contingent to perform a dojo challenge on Rickson. However, he lost the subsequent fight, with Rickson dominating him with brutal ground and pound and choking him out after the Japanese refused to give up.
My bad anon. It was before his "career" in shoot mma. I thought that's the fight, because he also lost this one, kek

It also forced Takada's hand into accepting a shoot match with Rickson that he had no chance of winning. Takada went from being regarded as one of the toughest guys in Japan to a National laughing stock in one night. He should have got his Yakuza friends to whack Anjoh for pulling that shit.
