If it was cancer he would have just said it and then the rest of the show would be dedicated to him. It makes sense for them to be vague if it was from injuries he sustained in AEW. Imagine if he came out and was like, "Yeah, I have to retire from all the injuries I got in AEW. Now, please enjoy Kyle Fletcher and all these performers doing incredibly dangerous things to their bodies, including the main event death match." It would have thrown a wet blanket over the whole show and AEW already gets plenty of criticism for being too "reckless."
