What exactly started the downward spiral AEW has been on for the past 4 years? They started off so hot and now they get maybe 1500 people showing up for television, regularly are sub 600k in the ratings and PPVs are doing TNA tier numbers. I'm wondering if we can pinpoint what started AEW's demise.

AEW lowest drawing PPV ever still clears TNA's highest drawing PPV ever by a significant margin
TNA has not once ever had a PPV get more than 60,000 buys.
AEW PPVs are regularly still doing 100,000+ buys for years now

Meltzer reports the PPV buy numbers. If you look at the youtube buys, it was less than 10k. How many other outlets are there to buy the ppv on? We can figure out a real estimate if we know that. My guess is 50k-60k

They were made to counter late vince wwe which was haphazard and often nonsensical but nevertheless entertaining.
After HHH got the book the hole that was there close and squeezed the aew cork out, since then audience been leaving the wrestling as a whole or switching to wwe to watch cody whom the top guys forced to leave.

Very first cracks appeared when they tried to arrogantly force Sammy as a face, and hot potato'd the TNT title. That was the first time the crowd hated what Tony was doing. Then the Wardlow fumble. Then Ricky Starks fumbles. Then losing Cody (his WM entrance MINDFUCKED Tony). Then losing Jade. Then MJFCole/Devil/Friends bullshit, then feared for my life, then rewarding the Elite with two belts that killed the tag division, then too many belts, then 20 min OC openers, then releasing the Punk security tapes, then LEDs everywhere (a reaction to Cody at WM).

Those were the main hits that fucked them. They've dialled back the LEDs, but it still isn't the same as before in the milly years.

The shitty booking in the early days was an indicator that the honeymoon period would not last. Tony choosing the elite over CM Punk was the real nail in the coffin though. Punk was the only true draw they ever had and it felt special that he was back in wrestling until the indy nerds fucked it up out of pure jealousy.

I think it's AEW's autistic fans. They love wokeness. They hate everything about America (Trump, Hogan, etc.). Die hard liberals who worship the transgender community. They lost the war recently. So now they're angrier than ever. Seething uncontrollably. E-Gods won prowrestling and we won politics on a global level. E-Gods have so many wins right now, we just sit back and watch them cry. Not out of our own superiority, but out of pity. Why do AEW leftists lose at everything in life? Because they're not GODS like us.

this is schizo headcanon that nobody on the board is putting over for you and it made you very mad today.
An Acutal FACT is that all 3( THREE!) of WWE's sad sad little cope shows they threw at AEW, all their tircket sales combined (that's 3 shows) could not sell more than AEW's singular event All In.
1 single AEW show outdrew 3 WWE shows altogether in the same weekend. That's a fact.
unlike your sad lil cope that you have been pulling for every AEW PPV this year because you have mental illness.

You don't get to deny reality because AEW existing raped your brain. They do 100,000+ PPV buys on the regular. None of these reporters have ever had a case of finding out a completely different PPV number. This conspriacy about AEW PPV butyrates literally only exist in the most fringe and demented corners of the IWC.

No cable provider has ever told shit retard fake journalist wrestling marks any numbers, at all. There is no incentive to ever do so, it can only ever be used against them when it comes time to renegotiate contracts. PPV numbers have always been made up by senile Meltzer

You have to be a special kind of retarded to think it's everyone else's job to disprove fake journalists' unsourced numbers - and if nobody does so, then it makes their fabricated numbers true. Life doesn't work that way.

Hangman's first title reign was weak after Danielson, leaving the Punk/MJF feud to carry the company
Punk/Hangman was kind of a shit match but optimism was high having a real star as champ again. Then he broke his foot, and the booking started to suck during the summer
Punk/Mox for the belt was a godawful feud but the match was good, and Punk with the belt again made it seem like the decline of the previous months would level out and things would be good
Then Brawl Out happened
Booking really started to suck, just total nonsense, not pushing the right guys
Punk came back and his containment show sucked, then he got fired, faith in a good show was essentially smoked and dusted
MJF had well worn out his welcome by this point
Booking never really got better, talent started to leave
Really it all goes back to putting the belt on Hangman at Full Gear 2021, that was the canary in the coal mine, but Hangman being a prima Donna about dropping the belt to a bankable name was where the trouble really started, and then Punk's injuries put nails in the coffin

Serious answer: when Tony took full control of the book. The EVPs weren't particularly good at booking but they provided different perspectives and kind of balanced each other out, resulting in AEW's best run of shows. But once Tony took their power away it was all over. His autism overpowered everything and doomed the company.

I've been at that venue for various things. Somehow they shrunk it by 10x
Maybe it's the ring, but I've also been to NXT Live in a nearby location. Not only was it 3 times the size, but they had to do two shows in one day due to high demand. Years ago mind you, I sat behind Frank The Clown and Brock Lesnar Fan. In any case, AEW is a failure.

The big issue is just that they have an overwhelmingly green roster. You take all their best guys they ever had and you can maybe make 1 hour of watchable TV every week.
Punk and Danielson should have been bigger deals, but they were too beat up and old when they showed up. These guys were hugely over with all wrestling fans, and were seen as getting over despite the WWE and not because of it. They would have made perfect EVPs or pillars to a start up AEW.
Their other big issue is their fans are too dishonest. A company like AEW could thrive on word of mouth, but when you have people lying about the worst stuff in AEW being their favorite parts, no one trusts them and they just think AEW is WWE for fags.

I don't watch AEW because I see enough of it on Botchamania. Did you know Tony tried to shut them down for showing AEW clips? I hate that faggot.

Rampage got cancelled. Collision is getting canceled. That's 2/3rds of AEW programming cancelled less than 1 year into the "3 year media rights deal". WBD will terminate the deal and shitcan the tranny rodeo I'm afraid.

has it really been 4 years? it feels to me like only 2 or 3 that they've been going down.
i feel like it was losing punk, who is objectively a gargantuan draw. but he wanted to get fired anyway so it was going to happen eventually.

Now I don't watch aew but my step father does. What I've seen is they seem to botch quiet a bit. They also have no memorable story lines or strong characters. Ik moxley has been doing that heel gimmick for some time and Tony storm has been doing her lesbian angle but yk that's all I know.
Cody and cm punk jumped ship too so ya
