genuinely asking where they came from. They were getting the same numbers basically the weeks before and after going on MAX, so where did these hundreds of thousands of extra viewers come from? Going on MAX did not make a couple hundred thousand new fans if it did we'd hear about it in two ways one being AEW and two being MAX both entities would be very happy about viewership and subs and shit. I genuinely want to know where Dave thinks these fans came from. No, your friend watching on MAX is not proof or a poll, it's one person.

You don't seem to understand how ratings work.

The people represented in ratings all have Nielson ratings box that they use to watch various things on television, as part of an agreement with Nielsen.
Why would the people specifically with a vested interest in continuing to watch on television suddenly watch on MAX?

The reason the ratings didn't change is because ratings isn't actually an ACCURATE MEASUREMENT OF LIVE VIEWERSHIP -- it's a PROJECTION of total viewership (a GUESS) based on the percentage of Nielsen box holders who are watching and hitting the button their special remote.
It's a weird, shitty, very inexact way to gauge ratings and in my opinion it's always been a bit of a scam for marketing people to push big ad contracts.

That's a separate thing though. We're not talking about Nielsen's involvement in streaming metrics, we're talking about why the television Nielsen ratings didn't change and the answer is obvious: because those people have a box.

Nielsen's contracts measuring streaming metrics are totally different. They're private agreements with individual companies and they're only publicly reported of that company chooses to publicly report them. Not everyone who has a Nielsen box also has Nielsen tracked streaming data and not every streaming service uses Nielsen to track streaming data -- some of them have their own registries.

I should also point out that the way ad time is rated has also completely changed and that streaming data is dead accurate and easily recordable and able to be interpreted by any layman which is a huge change from the old Nielsen box system.

Because the measure of Nielsen box TV ratings is so much more inexact than streaming data, ad time is less expensive than it used to be for everything but major events and major sports. It's why you might've noticed more commercials featuring smaller companies, pharmaceuticals, the kind of ads you would only see late at night or on low-ratings niche channels 10 or 20 years ago. Ad time for a lot of things is a lot more available and a lot cheaper than it used to be on cable television aside from the exceptions mentioned previously.
Big streaming services (those with external ads) typically cater to larger brands and companies and it's because they have more exact viewership metrics and can be more demanding with their ad rates.

The split is going to be the cable stuff is going to one company and the streaming and movie stuff is going to another.

WBD outright said that the the live stream component of HBO Max isn't a big component of Max, but the vast majority of the stuff they live stream is licensed content from the the soon to be Cable Stuff company and it probably cost a shit ton of money to run, so I would guess they are going get rid of the Max live stream.

AEW should be fine as long as the Cable Stuff company wants to keep renewing them.

Cable is dead. Studios are desperate and are over saturating the streaming market.
TV is dwindling, but streaming is picking up.
AEW on MAX is a smart move. TNT is harder to watch, it's like watching Smackdown on USA network.
Without cable you're out of luck to properly give viewership.
Count all the bootleg watchers, MAX, and TV into the sum of total viewers.

This place makes threads on AEW PPVs having 6k buys because of the one metric they can see ignoring the fact other metrics very obviously exist. This place makes threads about SmackDown being cancelled rather than very obviously not renewed and moved to another network and it’s really clearly the same people playing both sides endlessly because we’ve had IP counts this place is dead as shit. None of them are interested in learning unless you have a meme for one side or the other literally everything you say will be disregarded and this endless console war will wage on as they argue over shit they’ve made up to argue over with themselves.
