Here's the unbiased truth

Goldberg had the look, and the ability to lift people over his head. When he was being booked as an unstoppable monster, that was all he needed. But you need more than that if you want true longevity in the wrestling business, and despite early signs that he was willing to learn, either someone got in his ear, or his own ego got to him, and he decided he didn't need to improve anymore, and he actually regressed around the time of WCW's collapse.

When he came out of retirement, he honestly still had a killer look (especially in an era of smaller wrestlers), so it made sense to go back to the well of booking him as an invincible spear/jackhammer merchant. But after that Lesnar match, WWE/Goldberg just couldn't let it go.

Perhaps longevity isn't the word I'm looking for - but Goldberg is a character that could only work in short bursts. It was exciting whenever he came back to spear and jackhammer people, but any run longer than a single PPV cycle just became a chore, because every match was the same, and it became less exciting to see him squash younger talent. If he had ever developed beyond the Spear and Jackhammer, I think he could have been a lot more sustainable.

So, like Ultimate Warrior, then. The reality is, he's old, but the drones are only making threads now because he criticized WWE during their 'wartime'.

Growing up through the MNW/AE, I never cared for Goldberg. The whole "he's an unbeatable monster" never sat right with me as a kid because a) he wasn't any bigger than half the people he wrestled and b) having a guy who can't be beat ever is shitty storytelling. I truthfully can't remember anyone liking him over actual WCW guys like Sting, DDP, nWo, etc., but he somehow had a rocket strapped to ass and became a "huge star".

Goldberg and nWo bloat were some of the worst things that happened to WCW.
