WWF already tried some odd worked shoot backstage rumor angles when they tried to salvage the Fake Diesel and Fake Razor thing by attaching heel JR to it and whatnot.
I'd argue that wrestling has been a post-modern art by design ever since the fall of the kayfabe curtain. It's a very odd thing when you think about it
