His belt collector gimmick was much better than Mercedes running the same gimmick

In the end, it really was. Even as a fan of Kenny, I have no idea what they were doing with that gimmick. He squashed a bunch of people, won a bunch of titles and then almost as fast as they came they went away and no one gave a shit.

Look, it was good for the cameras but it sucked. Most of the matches save for like two were even noteworthy. Combine that with the fact that the AEW belt was seeing some turbulence itself and the belts were devalued, moreso the AAA and Impact titles. It wasn't until the Christian match where the Belt Collecter gimmick was killed and the AEW title picture got more interesting and Kenny got some fresh challengers. The chickenshit shenanigans still persisted but one head of the beast was still hacked off, never to recover.

How do you end a belt collector gimmick without permanently burying the guy doing it as a washed hasbeen?

>Job guy gets boots that allegedly belonged to Lou Thesz
>He suddenly starts winning matches
>Becomes a prick
>Wins all the belts
>Heel steals his magic boots and throws them out
>Loses all the belts
>Big rematch with the heel
>One of his friends he's been a jerk to feels bad for him and gives him a new pair of boots
>He says they also belonged to Lou Thesz
>He wins the big rematch against the heel
>Friend tells him the new boots never belonged to Lou Thesz and it was inside him all along
>Job guy now settles into the upper midcard

Few things in wrestling have pissed me off the way Kenny's 2019 did. You don't take someone who has buzz and garners attention from everyone in the industry, when you're launching the first major arena/network TV rival to WWE in 18 years, and book a story that literally is "Yeah this hot new alternative promotion headed by the most raved about guy outside of WWE? Oops he's actually burned out and washed up and not what he was". You're shouting to the world that your top pickup is past his prime, jobbing him to an ex WWE lowercarder in Pac, and catering exclusively to "will always watch regardless" hardcore consumers of ALL content.
