If Vince doesn't get Hogan, he builds around either Kerry Von Erich, Austin Idol or Sgt Slaughter. Kerry would have OD'd, Idol didn't have "it", Slaughter _might_ have worked.
If Vince doesn't buy his dad out, the first national promoter probably becomes... Watts? Joe Blanchard? Ole Anderson? They'd all have burned out quickly even if they had signed Hogan post-Rocky

Vince had dozens of stars at his disposal. When Hogan left the WWE simply elevated other guys and kept going, he won the war with Hogan being at the rival company and Hogan had to work for him again.
