I don't watch Joshi puro at all, but I've seen some clips here and there. Was the Northern Lights Bomb her finisher? That has to be the most beautiful, graceful, yet brutal and impactful pile driver I've ever seen. For it to be performed so elegantly by a woman of her size and build is astounding.

I enjoy modern joshi and, while the workers are a lot easier on the eyes, they don't hold a candle to the old joshis.
But like with most wrestling today, the current environment is a hell of a lot healthier so I'm okay with it.

I really do blame the high impact style, both when it comes to AJW and King's Road, because these people were already wrestling an awesome style of wrestling that didn't need the constant sawdusting and head drops, and unfortunately that's also what most people remember this era of wrestling for.

I am glad attitudes have changed though, like when Naito and Ibushi I believe had that match and Meltzer said he wouldn't give it five stars because he didn't want to encourage more people to get dropped on their necks

Agreed. It's also the backstage stuff - wrestling used to be so cutthroat with the politicking and the rookie abuse. It was expected because the mentality was that you had to be tough to make it.
Which made for better wrestling in a lot of ways, I guess. But I think that does something to people that isn't good in the long term. Light rookie hazing is to be expected so long as it's in good fun (everyone has to pay their dues), but the extents wrestling in general went to weren't good, and it was as true in the joshi scene as anywhere else.

Sadly, like throughout the rest of the old school wrestling world, the toxicity of the work environment inevitably caught up to most of them.
The toxicity is what led them to work stiffer and do wildly dangerous stuff that made them a lot more entertaining. But it also took its toll.
I miss old wrestling, but, honestly, as someone who's not a complete psychopath I'm also okay with them softening up the whole lifestyle if it means they can have decent lives after wrestling.
