How can I write a meaningful and interesting story?
How to write character development?
What makes stories good?
For context, I'm more interested in writing fantasy and superhero stories.

Avoid writing walking plot device characters with no purpose. If you write a character that is meant to just make a story going, at least give them a meaningful purpose instead of them being a simple love interest or family member; make them important to not only the main character but to other key people in the story or the world so they actually mean something. A scientist that could change the world being kidnapped has a greater purpose than someone who is simply a normal love interest and nothing more. And give said walking plot device character an interest personality so they aren't just some bland kidnapped character.
Make your main characters struggle and give them flaws. If your character is good at everything and never fails, what's the point in reading further if nothing is a stake for them?
If you're stuck on a plot point and experience writer's block, think what's the worst thing that can happen to the character at that moment you're stuck at and make that the plot point. Give your characters obstacles they have to overcome, play god and punish your characters that way they have to sink or swim.
If you write a "lovable jerk" type character, you have to write them correctly so they are likeable to the reader. Make sure their jerkish behavior, which can't be too sadistic, always comes back to bite them in the ass, usually in a comedic way. Perfect contrast is Eddy from Ed, Edd, N Eddy vs Chloe from Life is Strange. Eddy scams people but it always backfires on him in a comedic manner, so he always "gets what he deserves." Chloe is a jerk but in the story the main character can rewind time itself, so every time Chloe should get what she has coming to her for being a jerk, it never happen because time gets rewound. So by the end of the story, the audience wants what happens to her because she always got away with it so it's a breath of relief that FINALLY she gets what she deserves, resulting in her being hated throughout the story.

>>18436037No. But I did get it from there.
The most celebrated stories in history are rife with biblical or Shakespearean allusions. Scholars cream themselves over that, so try to base your stories on that.
>>18436130Honestly, the most I'd take from the Bible or Shakespeare are the character names. The storylines in them aren't that interesting from a writing standpoint.

>>18435794 (OP)>For context, I'm more interested in writing fantasy and superhero stories.Make a fantasy superhero series about a group of racist superheroes. You could have The Rabbi, or The Grand Wizard, who preaches racial superiority and a supremacist ideology. You could have Sir Capita, a knight who wields the weapons of truth, justice, and FBI crime statistics. You could have The Right Wing, an angry old man whose superpower is being racist while also having half-black grandkids.

>>18436306i agree, biblical references from a storywriting standpoint are gimmicky and only impress those whose attention span is that of a goldfish, and not necessarily the entire category of that but of the subset that is pretentious
