That's literally how kayfabe has always worked. It's only relatively recently in wrestling that kayfabe has been shattered and wrestlers don't even bother to make it seem real or to get the fans to buy into it as such. Heyman did a great job with this angle. Now if only Cunter/TKO would cut out all the kayfabe breaking posts on social media, and shows like WWE unreal, then maybe we can get real wrestling back.

The entire point of (good) pro wrestling is to make the audience believe it. Everything else is just a means to that end. Any true wrestling fan LOVES being worked. It's been a long time, but I got worked by Seth's injury angle. I still don't know where this leaves Gunther, and I don't see how Rollins as WHC will be better this time around when his last run was ass, but at least we got a genuinely surprising moment out of it.

I wasn't worked. They never said what his injury was, the timetable for return etc and Paul wouldnt have been on tv saying how Seff was going to be gone for a really really long time. The entire point of pro wrestling is to make the audience BELIEVE in what they're watching, even if only for a moment. Same goal in dramatic theater btw. The only difference is that pro wrestlers keep up the act anytime they're in public, not just when performing in front of a crowd. That's part of what makes (made?) wrestling different and why it was so compelling. You see the same in some other sports btw. Floyd Mayweather probably being the most infamous for maintaining his character everywhere in public, including online, and only rarely dropping it. And he was the biggest draw in boxing by far (while active). What a shocker!

1) No it didn't. The Attitude Era didn't start until either the Montreal Screwjob or Austin winning the WWF title. 1996, and most of 1997, was still part of the New Generation albeit with more edge than 1994 or 1995. 1998 was almost unrecognizable from 1997. Also the two biggest stars of the New Gen both left around the same time (Bret in November 1997 and HBK in March 1998).

2) That was a worked-shoot angle, not an admission. As I said before, everyone already knew wrestling is predetermined. Vince was using that promo as a 'reset' to get the crowd buying into the shows once again after a long period of stupid, childish angles that no reasonable adult could suspend their disbelief of.

Pro wrestling has fallen from mainstream cultural phenomenon that literally everyone was aware of, to a small niche scrounging bottom of the barrel celebrities (Jellyroll, Bad Bunny, Costco guys, etc.) for a shred of media clout and propped up by foreigners and clueless network/streaming execs.
