What advantage did faking an injury give him for his cash in?

This is a great kayfabe reason. Real reason though is that he actually tweaked his knee but it wasn't nearly as bad as initially thought

Well you see, despite having Bron and Bronson there to back him up and protect him from others and despite him having Heyman to keep watch and run distractions, Seth needed to fake this. By faking it, Punk had a long match and was tired by the end of it so the cash in was easy, if Seth wasn't "hurt" Punk would wrestle a long match and be tired by the end of it so the cash in would be easy. There is literally no way Seth could cash in unless he faked this injury.

Got Punk off guard. Fucked with him mentally.

>Music hits
>Punk internally panics for a second
>Sees Seth injured and limping
>He lets his guard go down and is relieved, begins to lose that adrenaline much like one would if a wild animal scurried off into the woods instead of going at you
>Seth reveals the hoax and goes straight at Punk
>Punk has to amp back up

To put Punk at ease on his fight with Guntha that he could go all out on it without fearing for the cash in, watching his back or thinking what happens after the match.

Then Seff showed up just to seemingly piss on his parade and dish out distant warnings about cashing in whehn he's healed and walks off with the crutches just to make Punk think he could hold on to the belt at least until the next official match.
Punk sighs a relief and the trap is sprung

With how long Rollins was milking it on stage and jogging to the ramp Punk had a good 3 minutes to just roll out the ring, hop the barricade and dash out the arena.

In kayfabe Paul Heyman has so much weight and pull he can make things happen. It's why so many wrestlers want him as their manager and while Heyman goes from guy to guy so easily. He's always in demand and puts his stake down with the hot hand.

Murder should still against the rules. Which is a problem AEW matches are starting to run into. They keep asking dumb questions like "Well if It's no DQ why don't I just put thumbtacks in your briefs and kick you in the balls or hang you from a ladder with a chain? OH, or better yet, in a regular match, why don't I just drop you on your head and break your neck when I have you in a suplex position instead of safely dropping you flat on your back??" You have to stop pushing it somewhere. There needs to be this sort of agreed upon line between the audience and the performers to get the illusion of pro-wrestling to work.

Each promotion is its own universe. Different rules of physics and pain apply. Modern WWE would look just as crazy as you think AEW is to someone watching a promotion from 40 years ago.

Best kayfabe way to explain it away is that every contract (not for a match but actual wrestler contract) has some rule about ruining the integrity of the festivities by running away or getting intentionally DQ'd. By doing those things you can face heavy fines and suspensions or even get stripped of the title
