A pointless heel turn and his 17th title reign sullied as he’s made to look like a complete and utter buffoon and joke and not the legend he actually is- Paul “Triple H” Levesque once again uses his power as head of creative for WWE to make a wrestler with a stronger and superior legacy to his look like a clown- it’s no wonder Stone Cold Steve Austin refuses to come back even though they continue to pester him- in the end John Cena’s retirement run wasn’t about celebrating an amazing career and giving the fans a feel good ending- it was a vehicle to get Cody Rhodes over (again) and bring back Brock Lesnar to own the libs- Triple H was never a fan of John Cena and it’s evident, rant over.

What did you want out of a Cena heel turn that you didn't get? With the current roster of guys, I think they did as much as they could and to be honest, I think it was decent. Randy, Punk, Truth, and Cody were the best options they had. Everyone went crazy seeing it happen and he drew massive heat for WM41. If there was ever a time to experiment it would have been his final year. John couldn't and shouldn't drag a heel run close to retirement. It did what it needed to do, and that was pass the torch to Cody. John can go back to being Superman and end his career how everyone should now appreciate, as a babyface.

If you wanted a heel Cena run, that literally was the best thing you were going to get. There is no way they could have kept it going after this match. I will agree and say this, if there was a time and place to turn him face again, it would have been tonight and after the match.

I didn’t want a heel turn- it betrays the entire core of the character, hustle loyalty respect never giving up rise above hate and cancer- he should have remained that way- turning Cena heel is like turning Goku or Superman into a bad guy and those stories always suck- no shocker it sucked here too, nobody wanted to boo him- all he did was look like a complete joke

He should have won the rumble, lost to Gunther at Mania then beat him at SummerSlam and have a quick run with the belt, simple as- or have him beat Gunther at Mania and then get cashed in on later in the year, maybe put over Jey since they see him as prominent babyface- there were way better options. If you want do Cena vs Cody keep it face vs face- even IF you want to have him use a low blow, fine- but it should have been treated as a one off desperation wink wink move rather than a full blown turn- definitely did not need the rock and Travis Scott or any of that other nonsense- the Cena heel turn to me came off as if it was written by people who just fundamentally do not understand the character in the slightest and why we love him so much
