At first it seemed like he did it because he was washed and old. Getting eliminated in the Rumble by Jey was the wakeup call. He needed to play dirty to stand a chance against this younger and hungrier generation. But then once he actually turned it was never brought up again and only bitched at the fans for being mean to him 10 years ago. They also mostly booked him against fellow old timers like Orton, Truth, and Punk.
