I would never call any post territory wrestler the goat. But Danielson is probably the best of his generation. My heart wants to put Cena ahead of him, but unfortunately we don't have any exceptional matches from him outside the WWE, and one is forced to assume, those matches are heavily scripted by creative and put together by agents. And while that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of them, it ultimately is a point against Cena in the goat discussion.
Honestly, if you watch those really old Danielson matches, where he has a the mask on, it's incredible how much he understands match structure and connecting with the crowd right out the gate.

His ecoterrorist run was when I realized how he's the complete package. Bryan was a decent promo, but this run he really shined on the mic and character work in and out of the ring. Plus he's loved worldwide. He's over in every promotion he's in.

Bryan was chosen by fans back when the roster was still full of legends and a midcard scene full of high upside Dolph Zigglers. Young CAWdy was at the very bottom of that pack, he was a midcard geek. I was never ever a fan of Bryan Danielson. He's such a faggy manlet in real life, and I could never separate that from his wrestling character. Having said that, I always love when wrestlers get themselves over. There's just something really satisfying about a natural organic push, one that is because of fan sentiment rather than politics or whatever.
