>"Everyone said Dean Malenko was one of the best wrestlers in the world, but to me he was pint-sized and his matches looked too rehearsed, like Cirque du Soleil. In Kansas City he dropped me crotch-first across the top rope and tore my groin. He wasn’t big enough or strong enough to be doing that move, and he never even apologized. I lost respect for him as a performer that day.”

Bret may not have been able to carry Dean Malenko but he sure as fuck is carrying /pw/ today.
>The surname Malenko is of Slavic origin, primarily found in Eastern European countries like Russia and Ukraine. It likely derives from the diminutive form of the word "malen'ky," meaning "small" or "little" in Russian and Ukrainian. This suggests the surname may have originated as a nickname for someone of smaller stature or a younger family member.

Dean fucking sucked. He is even worse in retrospect. Fake looking matches, fake looking punches, looks like an out of shape dude. Only character work he could do was creepy shit that Vince booked him to do. Every wrestler who claims he is one of their favorites loses my respect.
how did Malenko's rep plummet so dramatically just in the last few years?
being in AEW was all it took or was there more to it?

i noticed the guys fans always trashed (Luger, Bagwell, McMichael), when their health took a turn for the worse, fans softened their tone on them
but on the flipside you have Malenko who used to be considered great but now is in poor health and gets shit on. Bret's had plenty of health problems and he's never had more haters than he does now. fans have gotten really comfortable shitting on Jim Ross and Ric Flair in recent years too

I blame heavyweights for hogging the main event and trying to bury the better wrestlers that opened the show. Malenko, Rey Mysterio, Último Dragón, Syxx, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero and Juventud Guerrera had some of the best matches of all time and should have remained cruiserweights.
