Jack Perry was being a typical spoiled brat but Phil is like twice his age and started the fight. He wasn't trying to actually teach him a lesson, as always it's about Phil's ego. It reminds me of when he socked that guy in the crowd behind him because he thought he shoved him or whatever. He's quick to violence because he knows deep down he's a nerd with a tiny penis.
