Yes, they're struggling.
Because of AEW, Bushiroad, and wastes of space like Memezer.

They needed more money for the new giant gaijin.

Japan, as a cultural force on the world stage has shrunk massively. Sure, more people around the world watch more anime than ever, but none of the disposable shows people watch now have one tenth of the impact on the wider culture DBZ, Berserk, Pokemon, One Piece, or even Bleach have/had. The only influential game to come out of Japan in the last two decades is Dark Souls, a game that was explicitly taking inspiration from the west. Long running series like Final Fantasy that were previously the industry leaders have become shells of their former selves. Japan is on death's door as a culture.

Their whole culture was defined by having two nukes dropped on them and surviving. That gave them identity and fueled a bunch of their iconic cultural creations (Godzilla for example). The further they get away from that generational happening, though, the less identity they have. It's been several generations since WW2. They have no new identity beyond having low birth rates and men who would rather fuck pillows than their women.

A lot of they put out is so mid too. Like Frieran is the best in the last few years and even that is so middle of the road, nothing really happening type of show compared to evangelion or dbz. I think their shonen series not being nearly as good as one piece, dragon ball, bleach, naruto hasn't helped either. my hero acadamia came and went, demon slayer petered out a bit.

No, no it hasn't. Japanese culture is so beloved that China is currently ripping it off. Especially when it comes to the entertainment industry.
Nintendo, Square Enix, Capcom, SEGA, ATLUS, Sony, Bandai Namco... and so on piss and shit on the Western gaming industry.
Godzilla Minus One trounced the American-made Monsterverse films.
Imagine going to this extreme to deflect from the fact that your garbage nepobaby toybox fed killed NJPW.
And stop samefagging.

Because they are actively trying to make as many new stars as possible.
They've got rookies with less than 100 matches that are more over than New Japan's cringe forced musketeer stop-start slop.

>book Narita in the G1
>book Boltin in the G1

>event flops
>lowest attendance in last 10 non-covid years
>everyone laughs at NJPW
>rape and PLAP jokes being made about NJPW
>"W-WHY DID TONY KHAN DO THIS??!!"

Nujamals...literally all you have to do is not book EVIL and House of Torture in the main event spots. You can still easily fix this by booking Tsuji vs Takeshita or Uemura vs Takeshita in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom. That's all you have to do.

Book the young guys in main events. Stop crying that they are not a draw. You are not drawing any fans right now anyways, might as well take your chances with the young guys at this point.

Stardom has been excellent at building up new talent perhaps more so than any other company
Anonymous No.18610831 [Report]
It's a fairly straightforward path to where they are currently.

NJPW starts to gain momentum with Tanahashi and Nakamura in the late 2000's. Just as WWE starts to stagnate under the PG era. TNA, as an alternative to WWE, rises and falls in a short span. Fans are left with little outlet.

NJPW, long a haven for only the most hardcore smarks in the west, starts to experiment with English-friendly options and books more indy darlings. All the while their main acts display a more flashy entertaining style. Exiled smarks find footing.

Bullet Club rises under Devitt and later rises even higher with Styles. WWE is tanking in popularity, TNA is dead.

WWE in desperation decides to pick up two of the biggest stars in Japan: Styles and Nakamura. Suddenly NJPW is seen as a tryout league of sorts. WWE referencing NJPW sends more eyes to the company... including a money mark dog wanker.

Gedo is riding high and getting lazy. Okada/Tana/Naito + Gaijin works. No need to build anyone else. Young Lions languish in neglect.

COVID demolishes NJPW finances and obliterates their momentum. Young lions forced into a holding pattern. Top guys work hard to keep things afloat, injuries rampant. Bizarre booking decisions aplenty.

AEW forms and NJPW is gutted from top to bottom. Okada leaves without putting over anyone. Omega gone. Ospreay after that. Tana is broken. Naito has no knees. Suzuki is old, leaves. Every experiment is a failure.

AEW offers a golden collar, money at the cost of their soul. Gedo continues huffing his own farts. Reiwa Muskateers are booked like losers. Uemura and Oiwa are not even considered. Let's just keep pushing the same glorified midcarders and tired factions, while AEW dictates our big shows.

*cue a senile, long past relevant, writer: it's all EVIL's fault.
Anonymous No.18610957 [Report]
>>18606689
Is Naito even wrestling anymore?

>>18606588 (OP)
Its not just all the poaching but that next generation who were supposed to be the main event right now pretty much all went bust. Who was the last young lion to be an over main eventer? Takahashi who dusted himself back to the midcard? Maybe Sanada who himself is a faded star?
Anonymous No.18610971 [Report] >>18611287
when you think of njpw as an extension of AEW then actually the booking is great
Takeshita winning the G1 is huge for AEW, it might just be what he needs to finally get the best of a killer like Daniel Garcia
Anonymous No.18611027 [Report]
>>18606611
They actually replace old main eventers by making new ones out of already popular mid-carders or pushing homegrown young breakouts to the moon.
Everyone else it just poaching stars from other companies or bringing back geriatrics ad nauseam.
Anonymous No.18611287 [Report]

Imma throw it out there, I inherently trust NJPW's experience and leadership over AEW who's younger and doing everything to garner attention. I would prefer NJPW to be the big brother to AEW in this situation
