The Attitude Era was honestly, just like... ick much?

In this new era we will cut promos about going to therapy, trans rights, and getting vaccinated. :fist:

Ironically the normalization of mental health has been the worse thing that's happened to people's mental health. People glorifying being neurotic freaks who pigeonhole themselves as as demented faggots with autism, BPD, PTSD etc just makes society even more fucked up.

You do know that WWE has been selling out weekly crowds on average bigger than the Attitude era and with much higher ticket prices right? And that's it's been basically the same amount of time? 2 years as AE was only red hot for barely 2 years. Half of 98 into early 01.

All Attitude fags do when people say it sucks is bring up how much money it made. This current boom is objectively more successful. They've been selling out arenas for almost 3 years now. 2001 WWF business was a rapid decline. The AE as most people remember it already had the wheels coming off by late 2000.

No they don't, lol. No one on the current roster is even on the same levels as the midcarders way back then. You have people who remember storylines from 25+ years ago because the superstars sold it or made it memorable. Wrestling is just bad now because of several things...really, and for you to bring up money while the WWE ring is covered in ads and the sides are covered in electronic ads as well.

thats ebcause TV right deals retard which didnt exist back then thats where the bulk of what WWE makes comes from also inflattion

Trying to compare ratings from 1999 to 2025 is completely pointless. Merch? Again they sell more than ever, probably largely due to the internet tbf. I'll give you that one.
>>18788248
>No one on the current roster is even on the same levels as the midcarders way back then

This is ridiculous. Jey Uso, an absolute shitter, has main evented sold out PPVs. So has Damian Priest.

Nobody was looking for the Road Dogg or Test to main event a PPV, and if they did, it probably would have bombed. It's not like the WWF didn't have disappointing buyrates or shows. Steve Austin's PPV return in 2000 was disappointing, as was the McMahon and Austin cage match in early 1999.

People remember the storylines because the WWE, up until a few years ago, engaged in AE wank. When they constantly replay shit and talk about how great it is, of course it's memorable. Look at Hogan slamming Andre and the DX tank. Those got talked up so much for years that they became legendary, when they weren't really that big of deals at the time. Especially slamming Andre as it had been done several times before, and, hell Hogan wrestled Andre before.
>>18788255
>Because it its a fact go watch a crowd react to AE and watch a crowd react to any modern wrestling its like going from a hot party to a funeral

I think this has more to do with the changing culture in the US than anything desu. People are much more reserved in general.
>thats ebcause TV right deals retard which didnt exist back then thats where the bulk of what WWE makes comes from also inflattion

And why is that? Because the AE scared away sponsors, and made the reputation of wrestling in the US worse. It didn't matter for a couple years, but it hurt them really hard in the later years. Especially with the double whammy of Benoit in 07.

Another thing to remember is that Triple H was completely bombing as champion in late 1999. It took Mick Foley nearly killing himself, and an unrelenting push, to finally get him over in 2000. Hell he was even the first heel to walk out as champion at Mania. Up until that point he was arguably the first forced Vince push that he really saw through. As he gave up on Luger and Diesel.

please tell me when was the last time damien priest did a 450k/600k buyrate
Anonymous No.18788450 [Report] >>18788502

Well you can't compare buyrates from 1999 and 2000 to the 2020s, can you? Point is that the buildings themselves were sold out, and absolute bottom of the barrel shitters were on top. Wrestling went from a live event business, to PPV business, to television/steaming business. It's a different era. I'm talking about asses in seats.

There was another disappointing buyrate too but I can't remember the exact show. I think it was the PPV where Austin and HHH won most of the belts in the company as heels.

This is way more effort that I ever should have put in for this board. Gonna go back to irony posting now.

That's my whole point. You're saying the modern day is more successful, but let starts running ppvs again and let's see how many people are willing to pay for the shows. The 'success' is all from tv deals and the brand being the draw. Jey and priest aren't better than road dogg at all, they just happened to be on top in the era when it didn't matter who is on top

WWE draws a far smaller, but far more dedicated fanbase that is willing to spend tens of thousands on tickets and merch, but WWF in the AE had a reach and relevancy far beyond anything in wrestling today combined is able to do.
