Why is AEW so unfun? I mean sure the matches are sometimes good but there is no fun in watching the show at all. There is no flow or urgency to the show. Nothing feels important

Tony underestimated the challenge of booking an endless stream of wrestling. All the ideas he had from his e-fed days were exhausted years ago so he just shits out heatless multi-man matches, 20-minute bangers, and promos from their stable-of-the-month.

50/50 matches. When a guy they have no intention of pushing can go toe to toe with a top guy you are robbed of the sense of progression. There’s no watching someone improve.
Guys are off tv for weeks at a time. Once again it gives you know sense that someone is becoming more important cause you only see people twice a month if at all.
The matches aren’t actually good. A lot of the set ups especially for big spots require a lot of clear and obvious cooperation to set up. Even if you’re too pee brained to fully acknowledge it, part of you still notices. There’s no struggle, there’s no over coming, it’s just guys trying to pop you with moves and not even create the most basic illusion that they’re trying to win a match.

There's also the fact that it's obviously booked by someone with no idea what a wrestling show as a whole ought to feel like.
Tony just books matches like he did in EWR years ago. This guy versus that guy, set up a feud, yada yada yada. But there's no sense of interesting internal show structure. Like, there's nothing that grabs me from the get go that makes the main event a must watch thing.
WWF and WCW both understood the importance of that back in the day.

I don’t even remember who was involved in it. I want to say it was Adam Cole and the Bucks. But the bucks attacked someone and instead of getting heat for attacking a guy like a cowards they all proceeded to duck and counter each other and go back and forth for like 5 minutes until the bucks hit some big move on or off the stage. I’m sure some of the moves were real cool but that just what it was baby, cool, ice cold baby, no heat whatsoever.

One of the biggest problems with AEW right there.
Everything has to be a counter, a reversal.
Whatever just happened to taking the hit and selling it. A reversal once in a while is a nice change of pace but people get hit in fights far more than they reverse.
Just getting out of that trend would improve the product immeasurably.

Because he had guys like Cody and Punk to take the fun ideas wrestlers had to filter out the stupidest ones and make the better ones fit into a wrestling show, and had guys like Arn, Tully, Jake, etc. around but never experimented with it enough to make it work and he got burnt too many times by listening to the talent so now he just does it himself and only the Elite and Mox get to do what they want. Something like the Bucks going broke could be good and allow you to get into it if they had someone to reign it in but there isn't.

I enjoy most weeks.
And their PPVs are typically top notch.

From what i've watched it feels very cold, low-stakes, exhibition-like. the matches feel very shallow and superficial because of the way they clearly choreograph everything. the commentators suck ass and never give any background, so it's hard to pick up on any storyline. Maybe there are none.

I will say this, if it was Tony or Tony w/Cody, whoever did the first two years of AEW understood wrestling a whole lot better than Tony of today.

Tony's issue is that he's too nice and wants to let everyone get their shit in and it just makes for boring matches and events. Look at how many snowflakes AEW has and the most memorable matches probably happened within the first two years rather than anything recent, despite what Dave says. Look at O'Spreay's career.

Nigga was supposed to be the fresh face, but Tony just threw him in 50/50 matches against EVERYONE on the card to appease Meltzer. It's fucking stupid. First two years, you knew who was on top because they'd beat people decisively. If they get a ME, it'd be a gimmick match of some sort but it would be like ten minutes. It felt more like Nitro than 2003 RAW because anything could happen, any one could face anyone. Today, it's just "These guys are good in the ring, hopefully dave gives this *****"
