How come Edge (Cope) going to AEW didn't raise business in any metrics? Even the follow up show to his debut lost viewers.

Not trying to console war btw, the guy was one of the biggest stars WWE made and he was in WWE for so long, but it didn't feel like a big deal when he went to AEW. If someone like Orton or Cena went to AEW would the reaction also be "meh"?

Nope, I'm a big Edge fan and I like his work in AEW too, I'm just curious why he doesn't draw there. Is it because he's too old or is Tony too retarded?

No one wants to admit it but no one is really a draw in WWE. The brand is the draw.
Anonymous No.19250509 [Report]
He didn’t draw in WWE upon his return either and that pandemic run was just awful.

Guy lost it with the man face wife and becoming the old dad wrestler. I wish his neck would’ve officially given out and made him lex lugar.

Late to the party. The big new signing years bubble burst with Punk. There wasn’t going to be anyone coming over to top that no less someone from WWE who’s on the tail end of his career. Nothing against the guy at all. If anything he’s done a lot more for AEW than people will give him credit for. But it was too far gone at that point to make any waves. The ratings were already on their way to where they were going to go

Are you forgetting that one week where he tanked the ratings on RAW, NXT and SmackDown? It was very funny. Vince panicked, and added Daniel Bryan to the WM main event for a reason.

This 10,000%

people need to smarten the fuck up. No one is a draw. Edge was always a mid carder masquerading as a main eventer. John Cena could never even get the ratings up.

Because he wasn't actually a big draw in WWE either, everyone knew he wouldn't do anything differently from his WWE post-retirement run, and AEW fans don't even like him.
Why do people ignore demographics here anyway? AEW targets the niche whose tastes don't line up with what gets pushed in WWE. WWE fans are receptive to Cody's rah-rah America gimmick, AEW fans booed it out of the building. AEW fans would be way more into Dragon Lee, Jeff Cobb, and other people WWE fans are fairly cold on.
Sure AEW has lost fans over the years but they're not going to win anyone back by pushing the kind of stuff that gets over in WWE, either. They need to try a third way of doing shit.

He qualifies for AARP. we do not care about these old fucks. I'm tired of seeing old men do this shit. I hated it when Flair did it 20 years ago with Evolution and I hate it now with the next group of old fucks

nobody can be a draw forever. not saying edge was a huge draw or star but hes 50 now and by that time no matter who you are you lose most of your star power

vince only started wrestling mid50s

>vince only started wrestling mid50s
yeah but that was a gimmick he adopted because it was a shocking novelty at the time, WWF lacked star power after so many people left in the mid-90s and he hadn't finished building his next guys up
ratings tanked when he made the show revolve around his shitty family as the main characters

edge lost his star power when he lost his looks. when he had to cut his long flowing hair and he facially turned into an elderly wino

they have tried but almost nobody has any personality or charisma. if we are talking aew tony has let lots of the wrestlers try to get over. people like jungle boy, hangman, the bucks, britt baker were given lots of interview time. they mostly flopped

He was on NXT for 5 minutes that week. If the other hour and 35 minutes of the show couldn't make up for it then I don't think it was him that tanked things. Yes the same applies to Raw and Smackdown as well

In the 80s Hogan was draw, not WWF, he went to WCW and they started beating WWF after his heel turn. Then in the 90s Austin was the draw that helped WWF get back over on WCW. You're either a zoomer or a WWE dick rider.

Edge hasn't been a chickenshit heel since like 2009. He'd been a babyface since around when the Nexus happened until he started the Judgment Day

I feel like this is the boat I'm in. I still happily watch (and complain) about both companies even if they are presented with completely different philosophies.
Edge is a prototypical WWE guy who should have gone out on a high note (even if I have problems with not doing a job on the way out). I had no interest in him having a midlife crisis mercenary run "to show what he could that he never could in WWE" by having bad lucha matches with Penta, boring ass technical matches with Daniel Garcia or getting into sissy slapfights with Minoru Suzuki all while refusing to do jobs to anyone that isn't Christian, Mox, or FTR while a company that desperately needed to elevate its younger talent. And then after a year passes, he's still not putting anyone and now he's doing WWE style shit in AEW, where I don't want to see it and to top it all of he regularly disappears to film outside shit so any momentum to gain from him immediately goes into the shitter. I just don't want to see him anymore.
And I'm almost certain I'm going to feel the exact same way Jericho jumps back to WWE. I don't need to see anymore of it.
