DC Quest: The New Blood #1
Metropolis, Gotham, Star City, Atlantis, Themyscira. These were once the homes of just some of the world's finest heroes, now these places are nothing but dust. Corpses of humans, metahumans, and aliens all from a previous variety of alignments, lay defeated and finally at rest across these many places, leaving only one being standing amongst them.
>HAIL DARKSEID
The sound of chanting and applause is so powerful it's as if this universe itself was rejoicing in his victory. Somewhere on this conquered planet, this world's new king sits atop a throne of his defeated adversaries. The few inhabitants of this planet who somehow survived this massacre have either submitted themselves to the whim of it's ruler, or, are hiding and biding their futile last moments. Among the king, his loyal servants. A monstrous creature with a vice like grip in one hand around the throat of a dead kryptonian. The next, an alien garbed in yellow standing
stoic and looking off into the chanting crowd. A cackling jester, caged, but rejoicing in the desecrated environment around him. A shapeless and everchanging being is the last among them.
>HAIL DARKSEID
Somewhere out in these ruinous cityscapes, a speedster, beaten and barely holding on for his life wakes up and gasps for air. Taking in his surroundings the sound of the cheering drives the pain ringing through his head to a threshold never reached before. "This.. this is all wrong, he speaks to himself, barely being able to finish. Finally, he gathers the strength to hobble back onto his feet, trying his hardest to make a breakneck pace, though what is barely a jog is all he can seemingly do right now. "I can change this, I HAVE to fix this", he says, slowly gaining more speed as his attempts continue.
>HAIL DARKSE-
Time slows, bolts and crackles sound off underneath the speedsters feet, "I know there's something.. we missed, someone must know something", he says. Finally after his accelerated healing had kicked in enough,
he makes a mad dash and is.. gone? The world turns backwards, previous lengthy battles flash by in mere seconds, those once dead are standing once again, the world is healed, the scales have been tipped,
something feels different though he cannot place it. At the end of his run backwards through time he stops and looks around quickly once more, breathing raggedly he says, "A little further back than I mean to go but..", he slumps to the ground. Everything fades to black.

You get a good look at your feminine body, your developing curves, and musculature lately have been going through slight growth spurts, though that's fairly typical for your age. staring deeply into your own eyes in the mirror, you wonder just who it is you are, or who you're going to be. You've only just recently started high school, though it's a little corny, you can't help but agree that it's a time in peoples life where the person they truly are comes forth and begins to take shape. You dwell on this for a moment and wonder just who are you really anyways?

Oh yeah, that's right.. your name is Alice Carroll.
You settle back from the mirror, finally drifting away from being deep in thought. You take in your surroundings once more, though there's much noise going on in the house with mom cooking, and dad watching the TV super loud, you're still able to pick up on the birds sweetly tweeting outside from the tree in your yard. You quickly get dressed putting on your school uniform and brushing your hair back, before putting it into a ponytail. "Smells good, mom! Thank you so much", you say as you run down the stairs. Your mom smiles warmly and your father comes to the table as well to join you all
for breakfast, these moments are rare normally with dad working hard as a detective and having unpredictable hours. You cherish every second of it though. After breakfast is done you wash your plates and tell your parents you need to get going, or you'll be late. Your dad ruffles around your neatly brushed hair, "be careful hun, there's been a lot of freaks running out there lat-".. "DAVID!", your mother interrupts. "Don't scare her on her first day at school", she smacks your dad on the back of the head as he gives you a weak smile and rubs the now sore spot where it was hit. "Eh.. sorry kiddo. Just be safe, ok?", you hug him and say your goodbyes. Your first day at school! It's going to be so great, you make a mental note to try and not do anything embarrassing.
As you wait for the bus, it hits you then and there. Just what school ARE you attending anyway?

Your first day at Metropolis High School is here! You being thinking about what your dad said, you lived in Metropolis all your life, though admittedly you've also been pretty sheltered and have hardly seen much of the stuff happening that your dad works to protect you from. You think to yourself that maybe it's time to start exercising your independence more often. A few minutes pass by and the bus finally makes it to your destination. It's pretty packed, though I guess that's to be expected, many of these kids parents would probably kill them if they missed their first day back to school. You spot an empty seat somewhere in the middle, though do you really want to start your day alone? You scan the bus further and notice there's some other kids with a spot available next to them. All the way down towards the back most seats there's a dark haired boy sitting alone, though it seems he has a lot of attention on him, you wonder if he's so popular why doesn't anyone sit next to him? His blue eyes settle on you staring, embarrassed, you pretend as if you weren't just thinking to yourself about his situation, very smooth.
In the middle of the bus next to the completely empty row is another girl, she has colorful blue dyed hair, you notice she also isn't wearing her school uniform either. She seems a little.. lets say edgy, you probably wouldn't bring her to hangout when your parents are home, not right away anyhow. Something about her stands out, besides her angsty fashion choices that is. When you try to scan her a little more closely you swear that you can see something standing or sitting beside her, you can't really tell what it is. Weird, nobody else seems to notice this, or care, you can't really tell
at the moment.
Finally, also somewhere near the back rows is a tall and oddly built dark skinned boy. He has his hair braided into tight cornrows, he seems a bit older, and he also is slightly injured, sporting a black eye. His empty spot doesn't last long in fact some kids from another part of the bus get up quickly and go to sit next to him. They all exchange high fives and one even gives him a quick, friendly shoulder rub. Seems like he's the man, to them anyway. You hear them talking about the final game between the Metropolis High football team and Gotham High. They start talking crap about some boy from the Gotham High football team sneaking in a cheap, quick shot to this guys face. Some kid named Damian, whatever, you think to yourself.
Enough time has passed, if you stand here staring at everyone you're gonna look like a creep, and you haven't even actually gotten to school yet.

Heh. Damian will always be a little shit, huh?
You don't really care about getting between the bromance all the football guys have going on between them. The dark haired boy is smiling off in his own little world, his gaze set across the sunny skies outside now. You don't want to sit alone either, it doesn't seem like anybody would care if you did, but you'd just rather not risk becoming a social pariah off the jump. That leaves one option, you make your way towards the angsty girl sitting on her own. When you get a little closer, the apparition you saw from far away is somehow even bigger up close. Holy shit, you think to yourself. This thing is massive, whatever it is. You test the waters a little and sit down on top of where it's seated, you seemingly don't bother it at all by taking up it's space, either that or this thing is the one
tolerating you for the moment. You look over at the girl and think of something to say.

You have never normally had a problem getting along with people before. Admittedly though, you were never very good with these types. Up close you notice she is actually very skinny, you thought that perhaps it was just because she's wearing baggier clothes, but it looks completely as if a gust of wind could blow her over. You lock eyes with the girl and introduce yourself. "Hi, I'm Alice", you say trying to give her a warm smile. "Maiya", she quickly replies. You are taken back by her accent for a brief second, what is that, Scottish? You ask her about her background. She mentions her family are originally from a small village somewhere in the Highlands. You smile and think to yourself how smart you are for guessing right.
Some time on the bus has passed now, you've been talking to each other about various things like music, your favorite movies, shows, and activities you like doing. You mention you like her hair (even if it's not really your kind of style), she smiles for the first time near you, she actually has quite a nice and warm smile despite the standoffish aura she passively exudes. You feel a previous slight tension from the apparition nearby disappear as she warms up to you. Though, you freeze for a moment, you had almost completely forgotten you're basically sitting on whatever this thing is. This begs the question, do you hint towards Maiya about the fact you can see it, albeit ever so slightly?

Part 1/2
The bus finally makes it to school. All the other students get up and gather their bags and belongings as fast as possible, each trying to beat each other. The football players, despite being way in the back, act as if they take the number one priority though, and begin forming almost a wall like formation around the other rows. "Assholes", you hear Maiya say as the blockade slowly shuffles past your way. The tall, jacked dark skin boy stays back though, you look behind you and notice he's flashing a wide grin to the seemingly aloof dark haired boy from earlier. The tension seems high, to the big guy anyway, whatever is about to happen doesn't look good. "Hey, Kent", he grabs the boy by his shoulder and it looks like he starts squeezing down hard, whoever this kid is though doesn't seem phased by it and just smiles back. "Hey there Tyson, what's going on?", he says smiling slightly, though not as warmly as before.
Is this kid for real? You think to yourself. It wouldn't take a genius to see this Tyson guy seems pretty pissed at him. "Friend of mine saw you and that Wayne prick hanging out after the final game last year, you tell that little bitch he's gonna get what's coming to him." The boy straightens up after hearing this, it's the first time in the short while you've seen him not with a smile on his face. "Tyson, I'm not in control of what Damian chooses to do, be the bigger man and just let it go", he replies. Tyson very visibly does not like that response, both yourself and Maiya nod at each other, silently commending the kid for standing up to him. As the boy ejects himself from the conversation and goes to grab his bag, Tyson places both hands on the kid and pushes him as hard as he can, you and Maiya are taken by complete shock when instead of this kid eating the floor, it's actually Tyson who completely falls onto his own ass, there's no way that was actually real.. right? Tyson gathers himself and tries to make sure nobody saw that. "Yeah. Whatever Jon, go join the boy scouts or something", Tyson says to him. Tyson makes an effort to grab his own things and hurriedly get off the bus, Jon sighs and follows suit, albeit not in the same sort of rush or as embarrassed as Tyson was.
>>6222818Part 2/2
"Holy shit! That was crazy", Maiya looks at you and says. You're both still seated there, "Yeah, that Jon guy is stronger than he looks", you say back to her. You both grab your things and
head off the bus, as you both finally set foot onto the school property you're in shock once again. This ghost, demon, whatever, is a towering and hulking beast. It's easily standing up to AT LEAST seven feet tall. This is starting to cause your mind to race over all sorts of things, how did it fit inside the bus? Is this thing actually real, are you just crazy? Does Maiya even actually know this thing is following her? You try to collect yourself as best you can and say, "Hey.. uh Maiya", you say to her trying your best to mask how nervous you are. "What is it?", she asks. "Do you ever sometimes feel or see things that you're not sure are really there?", you ask. She stops dead in her tracks and locks eyes, shooting you a type of look that tells you to speak quietly. The air suddenly starts to grow thick around you, you struggle to breath a little from the thick aura exuding off this thing you can't even fully see. It's so strong you even notice a couple other strangers around you begin looking uncomfortable from the sudden change in atmosphere. "I know what you're hinting at", Maiya says. "I didn't expect my first day in a new school someone would be able to see him as well", she comes a little closer to you and whispers in your ear, "meet me in the library at lunch, and just trust me when I say he isn't trying to hurt anyone, unless they're trying to do something to me", she stops and motions you to keep walking with her. Well, huh.. you're not sure what to think of the information dropped on you. It seems you may have a commitment to speak to Maiya about her supernatural guardian, you'd be lying though if you said that whole moment didn't leave you wanting to forget this entire thing even happened. Thinking deeper into it you decide what you should do.

>>6222820>Meet Maiya after your classes
Your first day of classes rolls by, it's a little dull. Most of the time you're just doing activities to meet the different students in your class, your last class period before the break for lunch
is science. You dramatically sigh to yourself as loud as possible, science has always kind of been boring to you, art? Drama? Now that's where it's at. You make your way to class where coincidentally enough Maiya, Jon, and that Tyson guy all share the same class with you. Being closest to Maiya so far, you make an effort to sit next to her and try your hardest to ignore the massive beast lurking around that only you both can see, as far as you know anyway. Sitting at the next lab station in front of you is Jon Kent, the boy from earlier on the bus. This teacher wastes no time with quick introductions and immediately begins getting into a lesson. Some time in the class passes and the teacher excitedly mentions that tomorrows class will have a guest speaker, Lex Luthor, CEO of LexCorp. Most people in the class just kind of yawn or look at him with half lidded eyes, except for Jon. For some reason the mention of this guy seems to agitate him. Maiya couldn't care less and just shrugs her shoulders at you, Tyson isn't even paying attention and is bothering the girl sitting next to him. Why is Tyson even in your class anyway?
He must have been held back a year. Eventually, class ends and everybody leaves, you decide to make good on your commitment to meet up with Maiya for lunch at the library. You make your way over and grab a seat with her, "I'm glad you decided to come", she says. She takes a bunch of books out of her bag, they all are an assortment of topics on occultism, rituals, supposed histories
of magic, and other related topics. "I am going to be as open as I can", she gives you a worried expression. "How much do you believe about the supernatural?", she asks you. You raise an eyebrow, not really sure what turn this is about to take.

>You believe some things may exist
You look at Maiya and reply, "well I believe in some things.. I guess, who says something like guardian angels, or other spirits aren't real?", you say sincerely. Maiya looks at you straight-faced for a second, then she bursts out laughing. "Alice, girl.. you really have no idea", she says. She puts her hand over yours, trying to level with you since you were so sincere with her just a second ago. "Listen, the short story and the easiest way to explain this to you, the big guy following me is a kind of.. ancestral guardian", she smiles at you. "I'm not the only one he follows, there's many other of the Aikin blood out there back home". She looks down for a second and suddenly seems more somber than before. "It's only our first day here, but so far I'm glad I met someone so honest as you, normally people tend to avoid me", she says. For a brief period, you both just sit there comforting each other and taking in the happy moment you are both there together.
**You think your bond to Maiya just got significantly closer!**
Maiya looks you in the eyes and says, "I could never explain it to you well enough, how about I lend you one of my books and if you're really interested you can study this stuff on your spare time?". You think it over for a brief second, you suppose there could be no harm in it, she's just trying to open up a door for you to better understand things that're naturally, or rather, supernaturally difficult to explain. You look over the books and wonder about which one you want to take off of her hands.

>You choose the book of summoning
Part 1/2
"That book about summoning looks interesting to me, mind if I take that one?", you ask Maiya. "That's fine, but if you try to put anything into practice from that make sure you're prepared",
she says. "Convincing something you summon takes a great deal of skill, depending on how powerful the spirit is", she eyes you cautiously. You tell her you will be careful and shove the book into your bag. You both spend some time with each other afterwards talking about how you're both feeling about the school so far. After some time passes, it's time to get the rest of the school day over with. Your next class passes by in no time, nothing in particular really stood out in your English class. Gym rolls around at last period, you're given the high school PE uniform and sent to change into it in the women's room. This class doesn't really have many familiar faces in it, but there's someone who stands out among the rest. In front of you getting changed is a girl with white
hair and blue eyes. While she has a lean physique, she is absolutely ripped. Her small frame betrays her, as every inch of her seems to be lean, athletic muscle. Damn girl, you think to yourself. Something else that stands out about her is how banged up some areas of her body are. She definitely seems like the type to be into some sort of martial art based off first appearances. After you're finished mirin' the girl before you, you put on your own uniform. Nobody that you notice is really eyeing you in the same way, it doesn't take someone with eagle eyes to notice you're scrawny and spend most of your time on the couch or in your bedroom. Your gym teacher goes down a line calling out names taking attendance. She nears the end when she calls out, "Alice Carroll", she calls, "Here", you reply back. "Jon Kent", she says, "Here", Jon replies. The girl you took note of in the locker room is last up, "Rose Wilson", the teacher calls out. Rose just silently raises her hand, staring back at the teacher.
>>6223228You all are seated on the bleachers, as the teacher goes over the the learning plan through both the physical segments, and the health segments of the year. Finally she claps her hands together and says, "time to have some fun, let's play some dodgeball!" Oh shit, you think. You're not ready to get pelted by a ball, especially if it's coming from that Tyson guy or Jon. You try to get onto the same team as one of them and thankfully, at the very least you have Tyson on your team. On the other side though is Jon and Rose, you're going to have to really give it your all to come out in one piece by the end of this. "Alright, remember play fair and only aim below the neck, let's get it on!" The teacher blows her whistle and like hungry wolves both sides bolt to the middle of the gym with a mission to get ahold of a ball.
Jesus Christ, that Jon kid is fast too, so is Rose, you think to yourself. In mere seconds they already have a ball each, maybe if you really push yourself you can make it to a ball unscathed.

Part 1/2
As you race for a ball, like moths to a flame it's as if your team is magnetized by the other teams dodgeballs. Left, right, center, they go down one by one in under a minute. "Fuck this", you say under your breath as you look behind you at Tyson trying to dodge and fend for himself, you intend to run behind him and use the big lug as a meat shield to bide your time. Your last light of hope is dimmed, quite literally actually, as Tyson receives a ball going nearly Mach 5 speeds to his liver area. You look over at the other team in pure terror, and see Jon standing there, hands behind his back and whistling. Poor Tyson is putting up as much of a fight as he can to not cry out in pain, instead with every ounce of strength holding his pride together, he passes out from it instead. "Trying to Run? Coward!", Rose points at you and shouts. She throws the dodgeball at you in a screwball fashion and with 100% precision, nails you in the head. Your head blasts back as far as your neck will allow it to, and the rest of your body makes collision with the ground. The teacher blows her whistle and yells, "Rose! That's the principals after class", she yells her
face red as can be. Your reality is warped, your vision spinning out of control in front of you. Voices fade in and out, as you look over at the other side of the gym you're treated to your last
concsious site of Jon shaking his head at Rose all while she points and laughs at you. The teacher declares the winning teams victory unaccounted for, but everyone will know who truly got the first win for the rest of the year. Your vision fades away.. darkness.
>>6223461You wake up and find yourself in the Nurses station with Tyson. He's still reeling in pain and isn't aware you're next to him. Outside near the principals office you see Rose, Jon, and both their dads. Rose notices you're the first one back to reality, she smiles and shakes her head at you. The confidence of this girl.. the nurse arrives with your parents behind her, they ask if you're ok and what happened.
You are embarrassed enough and just play it off as an accident. You get the feeling based off your dad looking over at Rose and her father he might already know though. They start driving you home and you feel a little torn that your first day ended the way it did, especially with how well it started out. You try your hardest to shake it off, what's done is done.
You make it home and there's still a few hours before dinner. You unpack your bag of all the contents within and find a couple of notes that weren't there before. One reads, 'Hey, I'm sorry
about Rose. She can be a lot to handle sometimes, my dad and hers were butting heads the entire time, we both believe it was completely wrong of her to act that way.' the signature at the bottom is signed 'Kent'. Huh, well that's nice.. you guess. The other note is much more to the point and reads 'Alice, let me know if that bitch bothers you EVER again.' it's not signed but there's a zero percent chance that's not from Maiya. There's still some time left before you eat and you wonder what to do.

>You decide to read the book Maiya gave you
You sit down cross legged on the floor against your bed, and pop open the book Maiya lent you. 'Summoning rituals have been practiced ever since some of the earliest moments in human history', it reads. You flip through most of the beginning chapters detailing how to prepare a basic circle of protection. Huh, a lot of these things are actually basic spices and things you have around the house. You decide to gather some of the easier to explain things to your room and put some of this into practice. After a few minutes pass of comparing the illustrations to your actual application, you actually haven't done a bad job. Your salt circle is complete, it's not a lot, but it should do the job against some of the less powerful creatures you could try.
>You've gained Summoning skill Lvl.1!
**As an apprentice summoner, you have the knowledge to now form beginner level circles of protection, aiding in your defense against supernatural entities, and some non-supernatural attacks as well. Additionally, you gain a +1 to any willpower check when making pacts, or engaging in discussion with all forms of spiritual presences**
You sit directly across from the circle you've just made and flip through the book. You breathe deeply, and release. After a few breaths you close your eyes and begin reciting the apprentices rites of summoning. After you finish it seems to be working, the circle glows faintly and smoke billows out under the ground, it freaks you admittingly seeing this for the first time.

The smoke from the ground subsides, after a minute passes it has disappeared entirely. Nothing happens and you begin to think that maybe you did something wrong. That is, until a blinding light from the circle that fills your room flashes, stunning you for a brief moment. When your eyes open you are treated to a horrifying sight. In front of you is a lions head with multiple legs spread and spinning around it's perimeter. It looks at you, and then around the room, realizing it's been pulled from it's home. You quickly flip through the glossary of the book trying to find a name matching the description. Finding it eventually, this is the lesser demon Buer, one of the great presidents of hell documented from an old 16th century grimoire. It's noted in the book he is known to possess many great familiars, and has an extensive knowledge on medicine, plants, philosophy, and on occasion has granted powerful boons to humans.
"Oh, young woman of this orb. Thou hast summoned me to a place from mine dwelling, what is't, now thou seek of me?", it says. You breathe a sigh of relief, at least this 'Buer' seems polite. The question it asked hangs in the air though, you never thought you'd get something like this. What DO you want anyway?
>I wish for you to join my side (very high risk, very high reward)
>I wish for you to grant me knowledge
>I wish for you to bestow me a boon
>Grant me one of your familiars, Lord Buer

As you open yourself to Buer, the feeling is so intense and weird as he probes your mind. "thou are most new to this, young woman, of that i am sure", you can feel it say. Is this thing speaking to you telepathically? Your head throbs, as if enough pain hasn't been dealt to you already. You can feel memories being pulled, your first sighting, a glowing shimmer floats across your pool at night. It stops, floating in the middle of it, you get the feeling it is staring back at you. Another memory pulled, your time together with Maiya earlier today, another memory is pulled and looked at by Buer, one you swear you haven't yet experienced. The world is shaking, many dead heroes and villains lay scattered across the shattering cityscape. You lay there in that moment, impaled by a sword, a woman in an orange and black mask stands over you, you feel like you've seen her before. She is badly wounded, but still among the very few left standing, as your dying vision fades to the sky above, you see a large, portal open over top, some greyish colored being steps out of it hands behind their back as their booming, gravely voice claims ownership of this planet.
The last memory causes Buer to withdraw from your mind. "Oh pained one, I see dire times ahead for this orb. Take notice and pay respect to mine offerings bestowed thee", it says as three entities join Buer in your circle. The question remains which one do you take with you?
>The nimble, white cat speaks to you bestowing it's company, and gifts of night vision and claws
>A very large lizard stamps their feet around the circle, speaking in short sentences it offers it's company, with it's inheritable ability of regeneration
>Lastly an imp stays in flight from the same spot before you. He offers direct aid in combat and begins demonstrating his ability to use the small pitchfork he wields. It's not very intimidating, and doesn't look like it will do much damage though.

>Familiar: The Lizard
Part 1/2
You closely inspect and question each familiar presented to you, the lizard seems the most promising, you tell Buer. As soon as you made your choice the other remaining familiars are snapped out of reality just as quickly as they arrived. "Most well pained one, may mine servant Layla keep thy wishes up to the colors befitting to that a leader of hell", Buer says to you.
"One last thing ere I bid thou farewell. The vision thou saw, I bestow thou a warning of things to join. As we speak, a man most wealthy and desperate plots to causes thee human kind hast no equal. 'tis this man's like plot that shall set things to join 'i full motion", Buer says as his eyes set on you one last time. It is after he says this that the circle once again flashes it's blinding light, this time you're prepared and cover your eyes. Once you open them again the circle of protection is completely gone, except for the sigil of Buer leaving it's burnt mark in your floor. Wait.. WHAT?! You panic, it's actually burnt into the hardwood of your bedroom floor. Oh shit, shit, shit! You have no clue how to get rid of this for the time being, luckily you have a carpet beside your bed that is just big enough to cover it. You pray in your head that neither of your parents plan on cleaning your room while you're at school.
You think of what Buer told you, the visions you had while he was probing your mind. Who was that woman looking at your dying body? You came into this making demands, but left with more questions then you could possibly imagine you would've. Your familiar, Layla, you suppose is their name, climbs onto the bed looking at you. The sigil and your new reptilian familiar are all that's left behind from your first summoning.
>You've gained a familiar: Layla!
>Layla has gifted you with the ability Accelerated Healing Lvl.1
**You are now able to regenerate faster than the average person from damage dealt to you, recovery happens both in and out of combat much quicker. Serious injuries will still take a long time to heal, fatal blows will still kill you**
