"You're not the first to come here. You won't be the last to disappear without a name or bones."
There is a hole in the world made of dust and blood. You came to the entrance. By choice? By desperation? It doesn't matter. Everything you were is behind you. Here, what matters is what you can bear to lose.

Choose the one who will carry the burden of descending.

>Lars, the Bear
"The skin is human. The roar is not."
No one knows where he came from — only that he descended from the mountains covered in scars and silence. He walks naked, immune to the cold. He fights with his bare fists and sleeps curled up. They say he is possessed. They say he is an animal dreaming it’s a man. Lars corrects no one.
>Skill: Grappling — Lars relies solely on brute strength and his own fists, scornful of weapons and armor. This unlocks grappling maneuvers, such as clinching, throws, and takedowns.

>Nature:
>Brave: Lars is tolerant of pain and difficult to frighten or intimidate; however, he believes himself to be immortal.
or
>Integrity: Lars is tolerant of pain and difficult to frighten or intimidate; however, he pursues the right thing and does his best to get others to do so as well.

>Motivation: During the night, demons climb the mountain to tear people apart. Now, as the nights grow longer, Lars hunts for the solution within Belarmino’s brutal lair... or perhaps he intends to devour him.
>Hal, the Hare
"She saw. No one else saw. She fled. No one else fled."
One day, someone loved her. A mage. A monster. He used her as a test subject for a spell that required forcefully opening the mind. After barely escaping the ordeal, Hal exiled herself indefinitely, fleeing from the aftermath of the spell.
>Skill: Cowardice — Hal can attempt to flee without using an action once per encounter, with an increased chance to escape traps and deadly encounters. Allies, however, will be left behind.

>Nature: Null Presence — She reduces the chance of random encounters when alone. Incapable of creating bonds, though.

>Motivation: To escape from her pursuer and seek liberation and spiritual asylum from a holy man.
>Anika, the Rosebed
"She was laughing when she was born — a satanic omen."
Born of a dead mother and a ray of light, Anika carries the gift of healing the living with light. The dungeon will try to corrupt her. Good luck with that.
>Skill: Miracle — Heals allies. However, doing so lights her up like a Christmas tree to supernatural entities. Some can be dangerous.

>Nature: Purity — She won’t cause harm to living beings and is resilient against corruption and possession.

>Motivation: Belarmino seeks her as an offering. She descends into the dungeon not to fight… but to try to save him from what he has become.

You arrive as a prisoner.

Folo Wulfrick, a killer dressed as a beggar, visited you in a small health house with the intent of kidnapping you. Sliding his serrated dagger along your tunic and fraying the fabric, the ghost with shredded hair confessed he had been your nocturnal stalker for months — and that he had no intention of hurting you. He wanted to take you to the Sepulcher of Aen, and promised that if he left the place alone, he would not harm you — but would kill one of your friends every week until you surrendered.

Belarmino was a feared and respected Holy Hand. The Holy Hands of Portugal are inquisitors known for their relentless pursuit of duty. Before his exile, Belarmino believed you were a false saint. Although his accusation wasn't unanimously supported by the Order, he had the authority to gather holy warriors and hunt you down — and so he did. Many of his disciples were killed, but Belarmino never reached you. Eventually, the persecution ended when Belarmino himself became a target of the Inquisition, and he took refuge in the Sepulcher of Aen.

The Sepulcher of Aen is a subterranean labyrinth carved into the bowels of a great mountain. It was once an ancient monastery that sealed away impure relics — until faith gave way to time, and the horrors within found new vows. The mountain became a brutal dungeon that tortures its guests. The Church has long sought to reclaim it, calling upon many heroes. It never succeeded. They say the dungeon also distorts time — and that the mountain’s anus excretes demons every night.

In your dreams, you see Belarmino cooking on a toilet. He always looks at you without stopping his work with the soup ladle, and invites you to dine. Your dreams do not fail you — he wants you as an offering for a ritual.

It is truly difficult, but you accept to descend into the dungeon with the man you saw. Not to fight... but to try and save Belarmino from what he has become.

It is night.
The first thing Anika feels is the smell. Not of rot — not yet — but of damp stone, ancient dust, and melted wax.
Beyond the courtyard, the main gate yawns open, revealing stairways into the dungeon.
The only light comes from her own hands, flickering with uncertainty.
You take a few steps into the outer grounds with your mad guardian.
No one saw you leave. She told no one.
What you carry in your hands is a miracle.
But in the world below… miracles draw hunger.
And deep within… Belarmino waits.

"I won't rush you. What do you want to do?"

The door creaked as it was pushed. Light enters when
>you raise the sacred light you kept burning
>Folo lights one of his five torches

There are no more pews in the church, and on the stone floor lies a pile of rotting, naked, and partially eaten corpses—around fourteen souls who had entrenched themselves in that house of God against the soldiers of Hell. Squeaking rats gather to devour the fetid mound. The altars have been toppled, the tabernacle looted, and a dead Christ in a glass casket lies shattered on the ground. The few intact stained-glass windows still hanging tell fragments of a story you do not know: first a king, with a halo, and after many broken panels, another king—without a halo and with wings—sits on the throne...

Folo stomps hard with his heel on a rat, which squeals and writhes. Seeing this sends a shiver down your spine. Folo laughs at what he’s done.
>You scold him for arbitrary cruelty and heal the small creature of God, setting boundaries
>You don't waste words or power, preserving your relationship for the greater good of the mission

With the beam of light, a soul rises among the recent carnage. A single knight in plate armor. There's a crack in the wall behind him. He tries to flee in a spasm, but stumbles over the legs of the corpse he's clutching and falls to the ground.

“Damn it! Get away from me! Leave me alone! … Please...”

Filthy and foul-smelling, with embroidered garb, blood-drenched hair and face, and cheeks hollowed by hunger. He holds a naked body clutched with his left arm, while the soaked bandages of his amputated right arm drip onto the floor. His armor leaks dried blood from multiple wounds. You know what to do.

“Fear not! Behold, the Lord has brought you provision and consolation.”

You approach slowly and touch his skin with your small, soft hands. They glow gold, and the glow spreads to the man’s wounds, which close completely. The amputated arm scars over, but does not regrow. The body he was embracing, however, is dead and remains unaffected.

“Praise be to God! You don’t know how much I begged God for rescue! Who are you, child, performing miracles?” The poor soul collapses in prostration, his eyes bright with tears.

“My name is Anika. Please, don’t kneel.”

“Of course, forgive me,” — the man rises. “What is your name?” — “Gregor...” — “Do you wish to leave this place, Gregor?” — “Please, get me out of this meat grinder!”

“This is the way out. You're safe now. Are you alone?” — “... I think so...” — “What happened here?”

“I didn’t see. I found them like this. B-but I know who they are! They're my troop. We are knights of the Order of Saint Gabriel. We came here to retrieve something. A trap separated me from the group, and this was our rendezvous point for anyone who got lost. Look. This is how I found my brothers in Christ.” — he touches the corpse he was holding. “And my blood brother.”

You show sympathy. “I’m so sorry for your comrades, and your brother. Was he your only—” but the killer interrupts you:
“And you don’t want to avenge them? You’re going to run off without the artifact and let their deaths be in vain? Damn lack of resolve. There used to be real knights. Now there’s this. At least it’s a good suit of armor. I could put it to better use.”

“You don’t understand, man in rags. I have to take this chance to get out. With all due respect to your mission, my holy girl, but you too! This dungeon… it holds nothing for humankind. We must all leave here together! Now!”

You guide him to the exit, but accompany him. He is in a hurry, but before he leaves, (choose two):
> You ask what kind of thing his order came to retrieve
> You ask who or what might’ve done this to them
> You gently request a token of gratitude in gear for your escort, Folo
> You ask what this chapel used to be
> *write in*

“Finally we can move on. We still have torch time left. Where do we go now? I wonder who, for centuries, kept this little church clean. Will we find them?”

All green text is voted on. This (We still have torch time left) is a careless error and is only canon if you guys select the light torch option.
