In the gentle aureate glow of the evening's final hour, you partake in that which you have wrought with your own two hands, shared with the one who means the world and more to you. The bustle of city life steadily gives way to the quiet of night, settling in the elder wood of the mansion. It is as though time stands still in this place of peace and golden light. For the very first time in all of your centuries, you feel truly at peace. Staring into the cyan pools that are Amaranth's eyes, you giggle like a girl, unable to control yourself. He too giggles in turn.

Trying to strike up a conversation, you bring up a topic that has kept you wondering for quite some time. "What have you found out about the mythal of the ruin?" You inquire, brushing your foot up against his leg. The magician chuckles, shaking his head in mock-disapproval. "You want to discuss my work at dinner? Although our findings have been quite fascinating. Lael and I have been deciphering the Dethek runes with Dulnur's help, and the history of that place is rather compelling," he begins.

Though dwarven methods of recording the date make it impossible to determine the exact year, millennia before these lands known as the Silver Marches were settled by humans, Tel'Quessir - that is, what the darthiir call themselves - and dwarvenkind inhabited the region as neighbors. From what the three have been able to infer, both realms found themselves facing up against an existential threat in the form of orcish aggression.

Relentless in their offensive, the warriors of Gruumsh forced the darthiiri and dwarven kingdoms into a desperate alliance despite their mutual distrust of one another. As a show of cooperation, the two embarked on a joint project, with the stout folk contributing their expertise in construction while the darthiir offered up their knowledge of the arcane. The culmination was known as the Demon's Ingle, a magma forge complex designed to outfit their armies in enchanted equipment at an unprecedented pace. Suffusing the stonework was the Demon's Ingle Mythal, a work of living magic that made it possible to compress a tenday's worth of toiling at the forge into a day's labor.

Somewhat anticlimactically, changing strategic priorities during the war led to a manpower shortage and the eventual abandonment of the Demon's Ingle as its garrison and artisans were recalled elsewhere. The ultimate outcome of the war is left ambiguous, though what little evidence the three have managed to gather suggests that it was ultimately inconclusive.

"... though mythals are alive, and grow unstable if not maintained regularly. It's doubtful that the orcish intruders can make proper use of it without the help of a magician versed in the ways of ancient Tel'Quessir spellcraft, at any rate. More than likely, their true objective is to seize the magma forges, which could be restored with some maintenance. No magic weapons, but they can still produce large quantities of good equipment," he concludes as the two of you finish the last of your meal. "Lael is already working on a report for the Council of Elders that will go over to Silverymoon. We just need to finish translating a few texts."

The pieces of the Beastlord's prophecy are steadily falling into place. It was said that Vierna would pursue an alliance with the worshippers of the One-Eye - that is, Gruumsh - to eliminate you as you are otherwise safe within Everlund's walls. A handful of orc mercenaries wouldn't cut it - but a proper army, the Thousand Scars, armed to the teeth with dwarven steel could lay siege to Everlund and provide the opening she needs to get at you, even if doing so costs her everything. It seems you'll need an army of your own at your back if you are to prevail, or at least sufficient force to repel an army.

"I've also included select information about the possibility of a a coordinated attack on Everlund with the support of a dark elf noble house in the report as a precaution," he mentions, preempting your concerns before you can raise the issue. He seems to have figured everything out after you had divulged the details of your story to him, or perchance it is his seer powers at work. Were it at all possible to somehow love him even more than you presently do, you would immediately do so.

You sit upright, lifting your legs to caress his inner thighs with your feet. Grinning devilishly, you scrutinize his face, measuring his reaction. "You work so hard for me, llarh. Why don't I be your slave tonight? You can punish me in all the ways you like. Or should I spoil you? Like how a mother spoils her favorite son?" You inquire, your voice husky with libidinal excitement.

"You are a devil woman, Jezyrene," he sighs, his expression at once perplexed and intrigued. "And I am a madman for being drawn in by it. Why don't you take the lead? Just... try not to enjoy the scenario too much," he cautions.

It would seem that you have the privilege of dictating the nature of tonight's main event.
>Visceral - I want to be his slave, punished thoroughly for my misdeeds.
>O Amaranth, come to your mother. Tonight, I will spoil you rotten.
>We shall play "Warriors in the Arena." Nothing quickens the blood quite like it.

Seizing him by the wrist, you forcefully lead him to the study, offering him no opportunity to resist. "Where are we going?" He asks quizzically, taken aback by the sudden shift in your behavior. Shoving the door open, the ancient hinge groans in resignation, as if anticipating the sordid act that is about to take place. Scanning the packed shelves and laboratory equipment, you find his long chair placed strategically by a window, perfect for receiving the morning's light for reading. Pushing him onto the cushioned surface without warning, Amaranth is paralyzed by his bewilderment. "Jezyrene?"

Hastily you disrobe, casting your clothing off onto the nearest shelf with abandon. Vulnerable and bare, you sit on your knees subserviently, making eyes at him. "Master," you begin, allowing him a moment to adapt to the atmosphere. He stares back, reluctant though engrossed. "Take me, master. I am a slave for you, and you only..." you trail off tantalizingly.

It comes as no surprise that Amaranth is hesitant to comply. His is a gentle soul, albeit a powerful one. You beg and plead submissively, urging him to despoil you, intent on coaxing out the more animal urges he keeps buried beneath the surface. In explicit detail, you describe each violation that you want - no, need him to commit against you, leaving no ambiguity as to the dynamic of this encounter. You are a slattern, a thing for his own gratification to be used until he is satisfied.

For hours you scream and wail in agony and ecstasy, reaching your peak several times as you are relentlessly abused in the myriad ways that you demanded. The liberation you find in total surrender is sublime, coasting along from climax to climax as you are jostled, choked, yanked, and smacked. After being tortured hundreds of times, an encounter like this is merely light play to you, an amusement with a person whom you've come to trust.

The gentle warmth of early dawn rouses you from your slumber. Splayed out in the chair sloppily, a dull pain pulses all along your back, rear, scalp... everywhere, truthfully. In your zeal, you may have gone too far, though you most certainly don't regret it. Mustering your strength, you rise, noting the absence of your lover as you gather up your clothing. A folded note placed neatly on the windowsill, penned with vibrant blue ink in delicate script, informs of the reason.

'Running mage errands and getting a few things for the house. Will return in the afternoon.'

As for yourself, for the first time in what seems like a century, you have nothing that demands your immediate attention. Your sisters remain a persistent threat as a matter of course, yet they are a distant one for the time being. Today is whatever you'd like, with no particular objective dictating your actions.

What is first on the agenda?

And for those few of you who have been wondering about the elusive "next quest" - I've given it a lot of thought, and will be running one. It's easy to have ideas on what to create, though I've managed to shave it down to just a few that I feel reasonably confident that I can actually work on as long-term projects to completion. Ideally I'd also like to try keeping the same general audience as you all have been integral to Forgotten Realms Adventures, and I would like to continue running for you. I'll share the ideas below, and you can discuss which ones you're interested in, or just look at them.

>Thalassique! Les Aventures sur le Grand Large
The year is 1834. Twenty years have passed since Renard Guillaume, Emperor of all Regnais and would-be conqueror of Eurithia, was cast down in the flames of the Fifth Coalition War and sent into bitter exile. As the title implies, it's a seafaring adventure in a low-fantasy world that resembles our own in the Post-Napoleonic period. It's a story about transitions, both in the world and the lives of the characters. The idea is to really lean into the style of a pulpy adventure novel with a dynamic cast. I think the most mainstream piece of media that has a vaguely similar feel would be the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, albeit with an open tabletop RPG slant.

>Cyberpunk: Night City Nights
Based on the campaign setting of the tabletop roleplaying game (made even more famous by the hit video game). Like the game, it's about desperation and survival in an amoral, indifferent world on the American west coast in a dark future. The circumstances of each protagonist pushes them to become criminal mercenary operatives at the fringe of society. Horrific body horror and edgy tech-noir in abundance. The overall tone would be melancholy, graphic, and shamelessly gaudy. I think it would fill a nice niche on the board as well.

>Ten Thousand Suns
In the far future, humanity has scattered across a forgotten galaxy, its ancient homeworld lost and the once-mighty Orellion Empire shattered into fractious successor states. Held together by the fragile Concord and the diplomacy of the Galactic Senate, peace teeters on the edge of war as old ambitions stir and new powers rise. It's the obligatory space adventure quest, with the twist being that there's no "aliens" - transhumanism and adaptation to different worlds maybe, but the characters, politics, struggles, all human. The idea is loosely akin to Emperor of the Fading Suns setting-wise, for those familiar with it. The quest itself would involve adventuring akin to Indiana Jones with a gritty political edge.

>Where's the D&D Option?
I though about this a lot. Perhaps in the far future, but I would like to take a break from D&D for a while.

Totally understandable, given how many years Jez adventures have lasted. Though I hope we get a return one day.

I have a followup question before stating my preference, do you envision this being a shorter quest than Jez ended up being?

I do think there's a certain strength in drawing players in setting stories in non original settings, and cyberpunk 2077's world would have pretty broad appeal. Even if I'm a big napoleonic wars fans.

And I guess I should ask, how star warsy is Ten Thousand Suns? That was where my mind immediately wandered too, before I read the Indy jones reference.

I did envision this quest being shorter, yes. Wandering around and killing random monsters or making money as an itinerant dancer that went town to town performing were valid ways to progress the quest. You, the players, steered the story toward her becoming who she is and doing what she did.

>how star warsy is Ten Thousand Suns?
I guess that depends on what you think of when you think of "Star Wars." Bold adventuring in a space fantasy that prominently features themes of belief, destiny, and redemption? Not so much. Adventures in exotic locations where war and politics are the backdrop? Yes.

Descending down the incline toward the building on your property tucked behind the trees, you stand in front of the twin oaken doors, each twice as high as you are tall. Made of dark hewn stone, this building is old such that it is distinct from the mansion in a way that you lack the insight to properly describe. Attempting to peer through the large rectangular windows is a fruitless endeavor; a thick film of grime prohibits it. There is only one way to find out what lies within. Pressing your hands against the oaken doors, you push, exerting your muscles against the rusted door hinges until they finally comply.

Giving way with a metallic 'thunk,' the entrance flies open. As if an expiring creature breathing its last, the building seems to sigh out, exhaling a gasp of stale air that envelops you. The sensation is familiar to you - nostalgic, in an odd way. Like a pocket of isolated Underdark with poor circulation. It invites you into its maw, and you proceed. The interior is dour, eerily so. Spacious though humble, of the rough stone floor contrasts with the bleak choice of 'decor,' if it can be called that.

Each wall from end-to-end is packed with human skulls of varying shapes and sizes, all yellowed with age. Flanking you at either side are rows of austere man-sized statues portraying an emaciated man in a cowled robe, face obscured. What little light trickles into this dismal place serves to guide your eyes along a path betwixt the statues, leading to the wall opposite of the entrance, where a relief a head taller than you is carved into the wall. Depicting the symbol of a humanoid skull painted sickly white upon a sable background, it beckons you to approach, pleased to have a visitor for the first time in however long.

You break out in a cold sweat as the hairs on the back of your neck stand at attention. Approaching reluctantly, you inspect the morbid work of art. One needn't be an expert in Realmslore to know that this is the symbol of a deity, and the building a private place of worship for the former inhabitants of the mansion. The identity and precepts of this goddess or god are unknown to you, although you can infer that they are not benign.

Resting a hand on the skull, you feel a current of immense power running through your arm, the stimulation forcing you to withdraw. Even with your nonexistent arcane ability, you can tell that this is a place rich with dormant magics, a potent reserve of divine power unused and ready to be tapped. Is the god once revered here slumbering, or no longer interested in mortal affairs? Hells if you know.

While you yourself cannot leverage this to your advantage, it is at least true that a priest or perhaps magician could draw upon this wellspring of energy. Perchance you could entrust this location and its secrets to the followers of a different deity aligned with your interests, or see if your favorite magician can coax out its power to your benefit. On the other hand, you are well aware that some things should remain buried.

It is your property. What should become of this place?

Hey, just thought of something. Is there enough room inside or outside the temple to make a small area for dancing? We could have the Eilistraeans teach dancing to the locals to raise interest in their faith and some money while showing that they mean no harm. One needn't be a seasoned cleric to appropriately describe this place as 'most unholy.' Even the temples of Lolth did not feature such thoroughly miserable decor. Still, the dormant power steeped into the stonework of this place may yet be put to good use. The Eilistraeans can establish the shrine they will no doubt need here on your property. The surroundings are even vaguely reminiscent of a forest.

Returning briefly to your estate, you repurpose the note that Amaranth left for you in the morning to inform him of peculiar shrine to the macabre 'bone god' and request that he lend his arcane expertise to Luaue such that it can be converted to a place for the Dark Dancer. Alas for him, he had expressed his desire to retire, and yet you seem to find more work for him daily - you will have to reward him again tonight to compensate. You leave it in the very same place where you found it, setting out for the day.

The former Tenpenny Estate is but a stroll down the lane of Everlund's more wealthy district which you currently inhabit, a reminder that you now count yourself amongst the most privileged of surface-dwellers. Easily identifiable by its unassuming and businesslike exterior, few are privy to the truth of the sordid experiments which took place within these walls. You assuredly would not believe the full extent of Tenpenny's obsession and the lengths he'd go to pursue it, had you not witnessed it firsthand.

The path leading up to the estate is alive with activity. Carts haul furniture and crates of supplies to the entrance, whilst dozens of workers carry them inside and return for more moments later. Overseeing the endeavor is the trio of Luaue, Lael, and curiously, Emitia. "The Champion of Everlund graces us with her presence!" Exclaims Emitia, dressed up in her iconic red garment. "I've been charged with financing this little charity operation and ensuring that the dark elves have everything they'll need going forward. Come to celebrate the arrival of our new neighbors?" She turns to Luaue.

Luaue holds her hands behind her back, chuckling sheepishly. "I'm not sure what to say! Everyone has been so welcoming. We've had plenty of strange looks, and no doubt people are talking... though we've yet to be harassed, and that must count for something." The half-breed glances at the estate before returning her attention to you. "It's a lovely place, and there are no words to express my gratitude for everything you've done for us. Thank you again - all of you. Even you," she admits to Lael, grudgingly.

"'Even' me?" Asks the High Sorcerer sardonically. "Especially me! After all, did I not singlehandedly-" the young Eilistraean elbows him in the ribs, cutting him off. He clutches the point of impact, coughing violently. Emitia turns away, politely clearing her throat. "How does this morning treat you, Sindiira?" She asks. "Good. Very good," you answer firmly. "I'm here for her," you explain, pointing at Luaue. The half-breed blinks, taking a circumspect step forward. "Me?" She asks gormlessly.

"Yes, you. Your training starts now."

"Did you bring your sword?" You ask her, as the two of you navigate the sunlit streets of Everlund. Unused to the crowd, she remains as close to you as she is reasonably able, deliberately looking away from the curious and at times suspicious gazes of the locals. "I did," she says, presenting it to you. You swiftly confiscate it from her, securing it to your hip as you proceed, an act which baffles her. "You can have this back when you're ready. You're no good, so you will start from nothing," you state. The shabby fundamentals that she displayed during your sparring match are inadequate for the one who would be the defender of your people. Before she can improve, she must first unlearn her bad habits.

"W-well! I've fought a few wererats, and orcs. I think I can handle my own!" She weakly asserts. A stern look from you is sufficient to convince her that you know better. "There's someone who will train with you. You will like her," you say, arriving at the Dreaming Dragon. Rapping your knuckle against the door, Ilanis is quick to answer, her practice weapon already in hand. "Hey!" She exclaims, looking at Luaue. "Uluvathae! Who's this?"

Introductions are exchanged. Luaue regales Ilanis of the story of how your people once inhabited the Silverwood and eventually found themselves in Everlund - the revelation that Ilanis is Lael's sister causes the half-breed visible discomfort, though she relaxes her guard once it is made clear that Ilanis is no magician. For her part, Ilanis speaks at length of her love for her family, particularly her brother, as well as former High Sorcerer Amaranth Cywir and a certain darthiir. Her glowing review of Arara makes you physically ill.

You've a busy day ahead of you. Starting early, you put the girls to work with physical conditioning. Calisthenics, dance, sprinting through the streets with their armor. By the end of the second hour, it is plainly obvious that their bodies are ready to give in. Affording them an hour's reprieve, you commence the lesson proper. With training weapons in hand, they both practice attempting to strike you, and occasionally attempting to defend a gentle strike of your own.

Predictably, they are hit more often than they block, though their armor deflects the practice blows with ease. Diligently, you ease Ilanis into being comfortable with her stance, and gradually make corrections to Luaue's, becoming intimately familiar with their idiosyncrasies. Though Luaue is the more experienced fighter, she is no veteran, and her potential great though not remarkable. Ilanis, by stark contrast, is a natural fighter. It is a shame that Amaranth has forbade you from allowing her to make full use of her talent - the girl could easily be your best student.

By the fifth hour, it is apparent that the duo can no longer continue. You suppose a reward is in order - both of them have endured their first day of training as proper Ilythiiri warriors without surrender or collapse. And, you suppose you are uncomfortably fond of them as well.

How will you end the day?
>They have earned their rest. I will entertain them at my mansion today. Amaranth may have even gotten the bath working.
>Ah, a trip to the market will do them well. I will even buy them each something nice.
>Time for a field trip! We are going to meet the members of the Council of Elders and become familiar with their dispositions.

I've had perhaps the worst case of writer's block I've ever had. I genuinely could not come up with an update that I felt was good enough in this span of time. On the other hand, I do know what the last setpiece looks like now.

And to ask Emitia if she knows how to put on our frilly dress. Might as well ask her what her opinion on the Eilistraean dance classes is as well, and if she'd like to come and learn or teach what she knows.

There's no such thing as coincidences, it seems - I'm taking my first day off for the first time in seven months today as I've fallen ill, so the thread will be here later today.

Sweet! Canโ€™t wait to yell at Arara for making an ass out of herself in front of her niece and for attempting to ignore Eilistraeeโ€™s fairly obvious request to help the Drow staring her directly in her face.
