The sun just barely shines through the thickness of the sheets, draped across your bedroom windows. It's bright enough to still get a stir out of you though. You wake up, wiping your tired looking, black rimmed eyes. Another all-nighter again, huh? Who are you kidding, most nights are.

When you think back on everything, your life that is. You have trouble placing where it may have gone all wrong. Where, and how did you fuck everything up so bad? You try, and try, to get an idea. That's when it finally hits you.

>It's just kind of always been this way for me.

>I did a horribly embarrassing thing a long time ago, my reputation hasn't recovered since.

>I committed a serious crime. I spent a long time in jail, things are very different now that you're out.

Ex-Army. Veteran. We were drunk in a bar. This guy... Drunk also. He provoked us. We... We snapped.

Not op, but if anyone supports this, choose:
- If he survived, then it's simple PTSD from service.
- If he got in the hospital, it's Assault & Battery.
- If he died, it's Manslaughter, we're out because of good conduct.

You're ex-military, you weren't some hero. You don't think that way about yourself anyhow, after all, what kind of hero gets shitfaced and accidently kills someone in a bar fight? You got sentenced for Manslaughter. Eventually, you were released early for good conduct. You'd be lying to yourself if you didn't think jail was somehow easier than this though.

You get out of your bed, taking a big stretch, and looking around your incredibly messy room. Fuck sakes, this place is a warzone itself. Yeah, things are fucked up, but they could be worse right? Besides having a serious charge on your criminal record, your situation is looking..

>Grim, I'm jobless, no post-secondary background, and no friends or family to lean on if things get worse.

>Not good, but it's not the end of the world. Despite your conviction, you managed to find a menial labor job, you have a very small social network in your private life.

>Surprisingly decent. Admittedly things could be a lot worse, you are a little higher up the food chain at your menial labor job, you have friends and family you can lean on.

We wouldn't be out if we didn't have a job at all, but we ain't the best company either. And getting a job with a record, even with an honorable discharge, is not the best recommendation letter.

>Not good, but it's not the end of the world

Shit's pretty bad. In theory, you should have had your life pretty put together at this point. You were young when you first got incarcerated, the world before that felt like an orb of limitless possibility. Your choices in the matter after your charges and release are, of course, much less now.

Despite how things may have turned out, not all is lost. You have a job at least, not one that really pays well, but it's something. You were only let go of from prison a handful of months ago, looking for employment was hard, getting through the interview process was even worse. Eventually, you landed a retail position at a Walmart around you.

A lot of the people you knew and talked to kind of drifted away when you were charged, and started your sentence. You have a very small clique that stuck by your side though, you've been good friends since high school and have stuck around each other. You don't always hang out, but you try to keep in touch over text, daily at least.

Despite the massive series of shortcomings that has quickly become your life, there's always been at least one constant that you have always been able to thankfully lean on.

>I'm conventionally attractive
*People naturally give you an easier time, charisma rolls are slightly easier than they could've been, gain a +1 to any charisma roll you need to make*

>I'm smart and have an easier time finding solutions to things
*Gain a +1 to any intelligence roll, Tests and applying your mind to logical things are a little easier for you*

>I have always been strong and in amazing shape
*Gain a +1 to any physical roll, intimidating and fighting others is a little easier for you*

>I am incredibly resilient, or just jaded at this point
*Gain a +1 to any willpower roll, the light behind your eyes has dimmed and you are much less likely to suffer a breakdown of any kind, you find it much harder to relate with others giving you a -1 to any charisma roll*

Its either this or the willpower one. Digging yourself out of a hole is a whole lot easier when you're easy on the eye, speaking from experience.

Obvious meta (the only option with a built in malus meaning that without a malus it would be OP) is obvious
Also, realism:
- He enlisted
- He was rebuilt in BCT from the ground up
- He has seen war
- He came out so scarred that he killed a fellow
- He went to prison
Surviving even half of that would give him incredible resiliency. And sometimes, that's all that keeps you going.

The only consistent thing. Wait, rephrase that.. the only GOOD consistent thing you got going for you, has always been your resiliency. You got a thicker skin than most people do, hell, you'd have to in order to be in the shoes you're wearing. When you first started going through basic, your drill sergeant yelling at you, telling you that you'd never amount to anything, and that you're a sad sack of shit didn't even dig at you in the slightest. In fact, you think he was right, man definitely knows how to read an individual. After you officially finished your training, you got shipped out right into a conflict out east. You saw a lot of fucked up things happen to other people, and even yourself given the dire quality of life where you were. It caused something in your head to just.. well, disappear. You haven't felt anything like genuine joy in years, you can tell other people view you as robotic sometimes, but at least you're not out fighting in some shithole, or trying not to get shanked in prison.

You head over to your bathroom, time to get cleaned up for the day, you got work later on after all. You wipe your stained, dirty mirror and get a good look at yourself.

God, you're one ugly..

You pull back your messy, unwashed hair. Yeah, you're one ugly fella, at least that's what you think. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all, maybe one of these days you'll get some poor woman in here that doesn't think that for some alone time. Until then, you got to get ready to go wage slave.

You jump in the shower, cleaning yourself up after who knows how long it's been. The past while you've just barely been keeping your personal hygiene up to traditional standards for a human, if you didn't have to go to work, or take care of yourself in any capacity than you probably just wouldn't.

Some time passes and you're finally all finished up. You throw your blue Walmart uniform on and get started on your way to work. How do you typically from point A to point B?

No /n/ in America
So a rusty truck, screeching, hanging over by the skin of its teeth like we are. Gas tank always on the empty, filled in $20 increments, maintained by us with what auto skills we got from dad and our "glorious" eleven-bravo days.
