The blast doors of the SGC rolled open like the jaws of some ancient beast, revealing Major General Harry Maybourne standing before you, his crisp uniform having seen years of battles—both in the field and with bureaucrats. Sweat beaded on his weathered brow. It was a hot day, but he sweemed twitchy, even through his smile and charm.
“Welcome, folks, to my little corner of the nation’s first line of defense,” he drawled. “Pardon the dust. General Carter poured her last dimes into some cold fusion pipe dream down the road before retiring. Me? I’m just holding down the carpet—until tomorrow, that is.”
Inside, the SGC silo sprawled, a steel cavern of of silence. Dust cloaked the Stargate’s massive ring, its ramp covered in cobwebs, panels in the control room flickering with the faint glow of a bygone era.
“The brass have had enough,” he growled. “Command’s rolling in at 0600 to shutter this place for good. Aliens are knocking on our door, and those suits are hiding behind the couch, clutching their ...budgets.”
He clapped his hands, and grinned, a rogue glint in his eye. “Funding? Zilch. Backup? Not a prayer. Amenities? You’d be better off trying to find services on a Utah county road. What I DO have is a TEMU earth mover hooked to a ma’tok power cell and 50 tons of MREs to keep your bellies full. I’m digging deep—$500 from my own pocket for each of you. Hit Wally Whirl, grab drones, shovels, whatever junk you think will help you. Time’s a thief, and he’s sprinting—buy your gear, report back by 1000.
Maybourne leaned in, his face a map of scars and resolve, voice dropping to a conspirator’s whisper. “Wealth and tech beyond your wildest dreams wait out there—naquadah veins, alien gadgets, and the chance to save Earth in the boot! I’ve done the legwork, scouted some worlds for your forward base. Picture this:”
He swept a hand, painting the scenes.

Come up with a character idea and literally post a $500 shopping list from walmart or amazon on what you'd bring to an off-world endurance mission with no known relief date. I'd like questers to roleplay among themselves to make for a more fulfilling game. I will be providing multiple choices as per tradition, but don't feel beholden to them. Even if everyone else wants to do something else, controlling your own character means you can take your ball and go to another planet and I'll work with it.

I prefer the first option because it reminds me to the "Mountains of Madness" but this one is probably better suited for my character.

I assume we will have some basic training for combat, but if not I'll probably want to work on the character's aim. Otherwise main thought for the character is not a master of farming, but did it as a hobby and learn basic survival. Since we never know if we will get stuck on the other side of a gate.
