-3E 140, 3 years after the War of the Red Diamond-

Your father forged the armor. Your mother wore it into battle. Your uncle lost it.

“You what?” Your voice dripped with venom as you glared at him. “How do you lose daedric armor?”

Your uncle frowned, resolute. “It was just gathering dust on that mannequin. I had people to pay.”

“Mother left it to me in her will.” You soften your look as best you can. “Who did you owe money to?”

His eyes glanced down before he told you. You took in a deep breath and sighed. It was better than lashing out. It wouldn’t do any good. “…And I knew that was the most valuable set in the collection. I didn’t want everything to go.” It was true. As you look around the basement, many were the display cases of artifacts, weapons, armors, clothing. Your mother and father both traveled all over Tamriel, first as soldiers for the Empire, then as sellswords and adventurers. They planted roots when they had you. Mother continued to adventure in the region, but your father tended to you and the house.

“There’s a lot of history here. Every corner of the Empire is represented,” you walk between the aisles as you speak. Old Imperial newt-scale armor across from Alik’r desert garb. Khajiti carved walking staffs resting in a Dwemer vase. Skaal hunting gear atop Argonian stone pedestals. Wanderers and collectors - you recall a few pieces you added to the collection.

But that daedric armor was special. It was the only thing here that your father smithed himself. Everything else was for the shop. But not that. Not for the armor his wife wore, and now his child. If it was here, of course.

But where exactly is here?

In the mirror, a female Nord stared back at you. Light skin and fair hair, a far cry from the darker colors of the native Dunmer. But it was all you had ever known. Travelers from Cyrodiil would come through the Valus Mountains to your hometown of Narsis. The leaders of the city, House Hlaalu, were very welcoming to outsiders - more so than other parts of Morrowind.

“So,” your uncle clears his throat, stepping up to you. “What will you do?”

”I’m going to get the armor back,” you say, nodding to yourself in the mirror. As simple and direct as that. A Nordic quality you are happy to have.

“From the Camonna Tong? Niece, that’s suicide…”

You turn to him and shrug. “Maybe I’ll take it back by force. Maybe I’ll buy it back. I’ll figure it out, Uncle Leifgeir.”

He blinks and furrows his brow, grasping for a retort. “Who will run the shop while you’re gone?”

“Salen has run the store since Mother and Father passed away,” you give him a level look. “Trying to play the concerned relative now?”

“You’re all I got left among these people,” he says, and you know he means the dark elves. “We’re Nords and family sticks together. Gods, I wish we’d stayed in Skyrim…”

You sigh, ignoring the man’s bemoaning. You walk upstairs to your room to gather your things. You’ve dealt with the odd bandit and cave critter before, but the Camonna Tong? You’ll have to bring all your skills to bear.

And what are those skills?

>The list of skills is mostly based off Skyrim's, with melee skills of Oblivion mixed in. Magic skills and spells are based off those seen in Skyrim.
>Note: Our family daedric armor will adhere to whichever armor Skill of ours is highest. It is not necessarily heavy armor.
>As a Nord with our +1 to Blunt, the highest rank we can start with is an Expert in Blunt, if the votes decide on Adept for Blunt.

(Also, discuss among yourselves a name. The lists on UESP are great, and since Breton was a close second place for race, consider their names as well for our Nord lady. In that regard, Scandinavian, Germanic and French names are also applicable.)

Also, considering people are posting some character art, might as well post some of mine own. I think I prefer a bit rougher look for our character, compared to the pretty ladies you oft see in modded skyrim or generic female viking art. Plus, we gotta rock some bitching face tattoos, we can't be a real Nord in Morrowind without it.

You go into your old room, untouched since your first bout of wanderlust took you. Fliers of Arena champions and Black Horse Courier pamphlets covered your wall. On your desk was your basic supplies for your crafts - alchemy tools and smithing equipment. Your father taught you how to sustain yourself and your equipment in the field. Your mother taught you blade and mace, and you gripped the hilts on your sides.

Finally, your fine steel cuirass came on. And, like always, you thought of the praises you give the gods whenever you use your magicka to heal. A knock pulled you from your mental recitations as you tightened the last strap of your sabaton.

A dunmer head poked in and grinned at you. “Leifgeir said you were heading out. Gonna find that armor?”

“Aye,” You say simply, standing. “You going to stop me, Salen?”

He barked out a laugh. “Stop a Nord woman? When she's set her mind on something? I think not.” You smile and he reciprocates. His face then darkens. “The Camonna Tong is no joke.”

“I'm aware how strong they are. I can reclaim the armor many ways… pay them for it, take it back… Haven't decided yet.”

Salen moves his mouth, thinking. “I'm sure going to Mournhold would be a good idea. I'd be surprised if they didn't have a hideout in the capital.”

“Mhmm, I was thinking that or Ebonheart, north of here. Maybe see if I can speak to a House Hlaalu member here in town before I leave town.”

You think over your plan of action carefully. Any time spent here in Narsis is time the armor is getting away. But going the wrong way may lead you farther afield.

>What is your plan, for the time being at least?

You mull over other ideas as Salen holds his chin. You look at the dark elf, noting that he hasn’t aged much since you first met him. And that was when you could remember as a child. Salen Sadri has always been a friend to your mother and father, retiring with them after the end of the War of the Red Diamond. The Wolf Queen’s war. A civil war that tore the Empire of Tamriel apart and brought it to the brink. Even isolated Morrowind didn’t escape its pull. The entire northeastern region was a battleground as forces pushed and pulled along the Inner Sea. Salen’s home, Blacklight, was still recovering alongside the rest.

Salen would handle the shop, as he always had. He continued the smith work of your father, Joffur, and kept the name of the shop in their memory: Ash-Wave’s Weapons and Armor. “Say, Salen,” you rouse him from his thoughts. “Did Mother and Father leave me any funds in my inheritance?”

“Of course!” The mer rolled his eyes at himself, reaching to his waist and getting out a small sack of coins. “One thousand drakes. Er, septims.” He hands you the sack and it definitely wasn’t the weight nor size of one thousand. You open and peer in to see eight bejeweled dragons, three platinum zeniths, and fifty gold septims. With a smile and nod, you pocket the sack.

“I think I know what I’ll do,” you begin. “The Thieves Guild hates the Tong. So I’m sure they wouldn’t mind helping a mutual friend…”

”Try not to get tied in with them, Hrosta. I know the Hlaalu around here love to cozy up to anything Imperial, but they should draw some lines.”

”And they do,” you nod. “Officially, they look down on such organizations.”

~-~

Walking into the insipidly named Narsis Cornerclub, you come across hardly anyone. A few had begun to gather for dinner, but most folk hadn’t finished their work for the day. The nearby miners and farmers were not here yet. Your armor is covered by a dark brown cloak but you don’t wear the hood. “Hey there, Tallei,” you raise your hand to the cornerkeep. The bearded Dunmer nods sullenly at you, your drinking escapades from a few years ago still fresh in the long-lived mer’s mind, no doubt. “How’s the club doing?” You pull up a stool at the bar.

“As unchanging as our true gods,” he says, wiping down a mug. “I’m out of mead today. Sorry, lass.”

”That’s all right,” you glance about the patrons. “I’m not here to drink. Not this early, at least.” Then you find her. A small Imperial, slumped in the corner, a few empty mugs in front of her and empty chairs. She’s wearing studded leather and hood. You get up and stand before the woman. “Mind if I join you, friend?”

”Friends usually know each other’s names.” She leans forward, putting down her smoke pipe. You see dark lips smirking beneath a strong nose. “You want something, so you start.”

“Hrosta Ash-Wave.”

“Like from the weapons shop?” You nod, and tell her the store belonged to your parents. “Name’s Carinthia. What do you want from me, friend?”

You sit down, glancing about to see if you had any onlookers. “Not used to this, are you Miss Ash-Wave?” Carinthia grins under her hood.

“Not quite… I’m looking for information. About a unique set of armor obtained from my shop. Let’s say your main business rivals acquired it.”

Her grin vanished as suddenly as it appeared, like a summer rain. “Ah, yes. They’ve been moving around here more than we’d like. Was wondering what was going on. Not usually in town. Five of them blow into town and leave the next morning? Very odd.”

Could it be this easy? “Do you know where they went?”

Carinthia nods. “It’s my job to track such goings on in my circle. Yes, I know where they went, and thanks to you, I got the why for free. But their direction… Well that’ll cost you.”

Of course it couldn’t be that easy. “How much?”

“Five hundred drakes. Includes where they went, their descriptions and weapons they were carrying.” One hundred for each man, you wager.

“What other ways can I pay for this?”

”Hmm, a negotiator. I’ve got a stockpile of weapons that was lost in transit out in the Deshaan Plains, just south of here. Goblins ambushed it. Get those back for me and the information is yours.”

Your professional curiosity gets the better of you. “How many weapons?”

She taps on the table. “About… A dozen blades, twenty daggers, and a dozen bows. Plenty of arrows to go with ‘em. All steel, so unusual for goblins to be wielding.”

You think on your avenues of progress with the Thieves Guild woman.

Well, she got us in a bind. Did think about haggling the price maybe, but I don't bashing some goblin skulls and keeping the money.

They're actually trained goblins, and stole the weapons so they could give them to the high elf who brought them here. The high elf then sells the weapons, ships in more goblins, and repeats himself. Truly devious.

I'm intrigued by the currency system here. How do the values work between bejeweled dragons, platinum zeniths, gold septims, & any other denominations like electrum, silver, bronze, or copper?

The games default to septims/drakes, single gold coins. I always thought it was kinda strange we didn’t have denominations, I.e. a single coin worth five septims, or ten, etc. So I wanted to make bigger denominations. Of the 1000 septims we have, the bejeweled dragons are worth 100 septims each and the three platinum zeniths are 50 septims each. Since the gold septim was the standard, I wanted to go above them - thus why I have jewel-encrusted gold coins as worth more than just platinum coins.

You rap your knuckles on the table. “I’ll retrieve your weapons. South, you said?”

Carinthia nods. “Yes, south, just past the farms and beyond the river. I’m sure they have sludgepuppies with them.”

You wrinkle your nose at the mention of the reptilian creature. Their proper name is durzog, six eyed crocodilian creatures. Clever hunters, usually inhabiting the rivers of mainland Morrowind, but their long legs enable them to range out for prey. “Anything else I should know?”

The Imperial takes a moment to think. “No.”

You stand from the table, gesture farewell to publican Tallei, and head outside.

The small plateau that Narsis sits upon soon gave way to rough, grassy plains, as you head south down the road. The nearby farmsteads were not homes of wood and stone, but rather colossal mushroom-towers. The rain season would sometimes see the Plains flooded, and the farmers would have to paddle to Narsis.

The muggy humidity was only offset by the occasional canopy of emperor toadstools and willow trees around the stone road. Other flora grew beneath their shade, some of the alien plants even producing their own glowing light.

You pass a shrine of Vivec, dunmeri pilgrims praying before it. You let them be as they eye you suspiciously. Even born and raised here, anyone not a native born dark elf was an outlander to most.

And then, the river. A stone bridge connected the two sides, and on the far side, you see wheel tracks going down river. What starts the trail is a dead horse and Imperial. The goblins didn’t even bother with ranged weapons, just rushed the caravan. You follow the path, holding the hilt of your mace.

You come upon the goblin camp, after some ten minutes of walking. They’re arrayed around a group of mossy boulders. You see the flicker of light and smoke trail of a campfire, and the smell of cooked meat. You creep closer, spotting the hijacked caravan on the far side, guarded by a goblin with a durzog at his side. The goblins are revelling on one side, banging their newly pillaged steel together, dancing around the fire. Another group surrounds - by the Nine! - a clannfear daedra. The saurian monster is on all fours and in pain as a goblin shaman holds a ring over its head. Other goblins are trying to mount the large creature, but it keeps bucking them off, trying in vain to defend itself.

How do you approach the camp?
