i have a dentist appointment in 2 hours for the first time since i was 18 (i am 24 now) and i am deathly terrified that they will tell me my teeth are un-salvageable, to the point where i am pacing in circles trying not to throw up from anxiety

I stopped going to the dentist at the same age and didn't go back til I was 32. Tons of cavities, a root canal, periodontal disease. As long as you got the money it can all be fixed or treated. I didn't brush for months at a time and never flossed before returning to the dentist, now I'm doing 6 minutes of dental hygiene a day plus oil pulling three days a week. Your situation can turn around even if it may seem insurmountable.

I had a couple of cracked, partially missing teeth and a shit ton of cavities. They look like shit too, crooked, but I don't really care about that. Dental pain is kinda relative though, two people can have the same thing and one will hurt more just because of the way their nerves are laid out or whatever.

damn, just get what treatment you can I guess.

its honestly rare that ALL of them will be at that point, at most you might have one at the back

the only time it really ever gets to that point is if you either never brushed your teeth in your life or got in a car crash and smashed all your teeth

dentists dont activley want to remove teeth because it costs less (lower pay for them) and the customer (you) will be unhappy

Good luck, anon. You'll be alright. Better to have your teeth fixed now than having all of them pulled in another six years.

Sometimes they do end up beyond help. Like a long while back I tried going to a dentist and he told me I needed to see these 5 other specialists in some convoluted long term process in order to get everything fixed. I didn't bother and just let my teeth finish rotting out completely and then got the full mouth's worth of teeth replaced with zirconia implants.
The implant center guy told me it would've been more of a problem if only some of my teeth were rotted out instead of all of them because it's easier when they can do all of them instead of trying to fill in just part of the mouth with individual implants for every tooth. So he basically confirmed my thinking that it would be better to get it fixed after the whole mouth fell apart instead of seeking out help sooner.
Cost me $54k btw, but I think it was worth it. Having good teeth is nice.

Never missed a brushing day in my life, am in decent shape and avoid pretty much all food/drinks that are bad for dental health yet i still gotta go to the dentist to get work done at least twice a year.

Some people are just lucky/unlucky

Now make sure to floss (I recommend any kind of expanding floss) and brush your teeth every night before going to bed.

Dentists are glorified teeth brushers. Whatever they tell you they're more than likely retarded like doctors. They've likely have no real passion for dentistry anymore, they just repeat whatever bullshit they were taught in schools 20 years ago and push you towards doing shit that is more profitable for themselves like a doctor sending you off to buy a shit ton of meds.

Drink some ice water right now. Do any of your teeth hurt really bad? You may have a cavity though if you live in the U.S. thats very unlikely because they fluoridate the water.

Basically they'll just clean your teeth, tell you that you should brush more often(outdated bullshit) and tell you where you need to brush.

NTA, but if you wait long enough the roots die and you don't feel any pain (just a weird sense of pressure).
