There is nothing natural or human about jamming 500-2k kids into a building and forcing them to get along under strict guidelines. I think people of the future will eventually re-evaluate this concept and come to the conclusion that its highly psychologically damaging to people.
School is a forced tight knit community much like early human hierarchical tribes only there's no tribal elders, only 1 adult for every 30 kids and those adults have no real investment in your upbringing. So what you get is lord of the flies type situation in which being ugly gets you rejected.
In a tribal world you could leave the tribe, in the modern world nobody cares because the line between tribes is so blurred you can be part of multiple tribes and even choose to leave your own family. This is why you feel invisible.
You are no longer a member of a tribe. All you have to do is join a tribe and they might notice you but they will have never seen the old you so you will never be acknowledged for your glow up.
