Gradually. China is producing more intellectuals, inventors, and researchers. Everything that made America an interesting place after 1945 is slowly fading away. The average American fifth grader right now can barely read, can't navigate Windows, and is four years behind in math.
Most of the US is going to be third-world stupid in a generation and fewer and fewer international students are coming to the US to study anywhere but Harvard, Stanford, and MIT. It's a slow brain-drain but you can see it happen a little more each year.
How much of China's innovation is real and how much is propaganda made up by the CCP is hard to tell since outsiders aren't allowed to check. They claim they have a 105 qubit quantum computer (50% higher than Google's) but good luck ever seeing the fucking thing.
