If being a nice person is a choice, why don't you choose to be nice?
It being happy is a choice, why don't you choose to be happy?

being nice takes more effort that most people aren't willing to spend. happiness is only partially a choice

Are you a teenager? That's the only explanation I'd accept as to why you're this retarded.
You can be happy or be upset. Be happy. If you lack the inner will to forge happiness from circumstance then go back to the grindstone and work on yourself until you can.

In instances where I am mean, cruel, petty, and unkind, I always regret it. It never feels good.

It is quite taxing to be nice to people all the time. That's why as friendships grow the pleasantries almost always cease to make way for raw communication.

It really is God's greatest joke that children come out of the box as pleased as peaches to be here and we spend the rest of their life regretting it.

I do every day and the result is that people are disproportionately hostile belligerent aggressive with you when you are for some reason. Its very animalistic. I became popular in school by being nice until someone said me being nice was literally weird and then all at once they did not socialize with me. Its very strange.

I do choose to be nice, but I'm not nice to everyone for no reason. Ultimately, being nice isn't very important and the truth precedes being nice. Being superficially nice merely for the sake of being nice is inauthentic, it's a social mask to hide who you really are to avoid being judged. Saying what other people want to hear specifically so they'll like you is pathetic. It's weakness.

I also do choose to be happy, but I'm not happy all the time. I let my emotions exist as they come, when I'm sad, I'm sad. When I'm happy, I'm happy.
That is what it means to choose to be happy. It's not that you repress your own sadness or other such negative emotions, it's that you DON'T repress your happiness.

Because it's not an active choice. I don't get to choose to be happy every day.

Same goes for being nice. In order to be nice, one needs to know what being nice means. Is it eating the whole meal to show how much you liked it? Or leaving a little bit to show the portion size wasn't too little? Is it being blind to social labels? Or is it being precise about them. Do you give them what they want? Or do you give them what they need? Or do you give them what they ask for?

you are mixing being nice with having good social etiquette. dont treat people only as a means to an end and treat people how you wish to be treated is all it takes to be nice. in essence dont use, betray or exploit people and don't act cruelly towards people.

I'll tell you a story, anon. My high school had a common locker room for jackets. Sometimes those jackets would fall to the floor and people would stomp on them. Always if I saw a fallen jacket I would pick it up and give it to the owner, we all went home after classes, after all it wasn't something hard to do. Not once did any of my classmates do the same with my jacket or anyone else's. The most they could do was put the jacket on the change shoe rack.
