Why do NPCs do this when walking? - /r9k/ (#81518503) [Archived: 1037 hours ago]

>be walking down sidewalk by myself
>on the right side, cause that's the direction of road traffic in USA
>if someone is walking towards me in my lane I stay the course and shoo them away
>clap in front of their face if they're lost in their phone and about to walk right into me
>just stop and wait if it's someone I don't mind rubbing against me when they realize they're blocking my path
>then someone enters the sidewalk ahead of me and starts walking on the left
>think of Murphy's law and what might happen when they're in someone else's path
>exactly that happens
>NPC responds to person walking the wrong way/side by going the wrong way/side themselves
>but now I'm close behind the wrong way walker, but on the correct side
>there is a body right in my path headed right toward me
>proceed forward because I have the right of way and there is nowhere else to go at this point
>if I stop they'll look at me like I'm a weirdo and I'm blocking /their/ path
>if I stay the course it's a violent kinetic impact as I smash into the side of an NPC walking into me
>they yell at me to "watch where you're going fuckface"
>like as if they think I didn't see them from half a block away
>ignore and keep walking because road rage or sidewalk rage is stupid
Do they expect I should have followed the wrong-way walkers ahead of me, made some awkward squiggle-twist motion to avoid them in my path, or what I don't know This shit happens constantly everywhere I go, and is why I often just walk in the street to avoid other pedestrians being near me altogether.

>another common thing is when someone thinks I'm following them because I'm walking right behind them, but there are people walking the other direction and I am waiting to pass them comfortably when the opportunity arises.

I hate normgroids so fucking much. Everything is a popularity and vibes contest with these people. If they don't. Instinctively respect you, they treat you like shit.

In order to be respected you have to either seem a bit unhinged or be a normie fuck, preferably a bit of both. I think that's slowly happening to me over time, yet I hate it cause it alienates me from other non-nts that I genuinely like hanging out with

This is the most annoying thing ever when they just walk towards you and don't move to make room or just keep moving side to side. No one ever seems to pay attention to where they are walking and it pisses me off.

Imagine if you were driving, and then constantly encountering cars going the wrong way on the road and turning in front of you without warning. Exact same thing except you have no brakes and horn, when someone interrupts your body movement sometimes there is a pedestrian collision. I just want to walk in a straight path on the straight sidewalk with plenty of room, and there shouldn't be bodies in the way constantly.

Why would you not just... avoid a collision? And also avoid getting their attention?

You're the primitive being who is turning it into a contest of power because you're confronting random distracted people walking for not paying enough attention, instead of just adapting to them

You're on foot. So there is plenty of room to move out of the way. You're like an Indian walking in front of a train and expecting that it would stop if it was bound to hit you. It won't and can't. Just like a person who doesn't see you coming.

I just don't want to be bothered by people blocking my path, you cannot predict other people's body movements second by second, I would think that they'd have the awareness to not walk in front of me, but once they do often ther is no way out like:

>>81519125
Not if there is a wall on one side of you an other people on the other side when someone stars walking into you head on.

I am also reminded of one rainy day when I was walking in a straight line along the right side of a plaza next to a wall, and a woman turns in front of me to go into a building and I see bullet time as she steps in front of me while I have one foot off the ground and then smack into her hard knocking her back down leaving her screaming.
This was so obviously her fault an nothing I could do to prevent it in the moment, people saw and no one confronted me.

>>81519191
That is only for walking in the roadway at the same level facing oncoming vehicle traffic, not the footpath shared by pedestrians walking opposite directions in close provimity.

They do it here (yookay) as well. Really annoying, as we drive on the left, but a lot walk on the right side of the pavement. It is really infuriating, as some walk on the Ieft, some on the right, so I sometimes walk in the middle of the pavement. Do yuo think it's a covid thing? It's only been happening for the past 4 years or so.

That's weird, I've never had a problem with this in the UK. Back home in Euroshitholeistan people would just walk into me like I'm not even there. I'd keep running into groups of two or three morons taking up the entire pavement and just not getting out of the way. Everyone's so much nicer here.

It takes a lot of mental and physical effort to do that, and I don't have to, and I won't. This is all very objective, when you're walking on the sidewalk on the side corresponding to the flow of traffic, and someone gets right in your way walking the opposite direction, and you refuse to yield and so you just bump them or push them away from you of you're being more proactive.

If shows like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm were still in production, they'd have a whole episode about it called "The wrong way walker" or "The squiggle-scramble."

It happens more often now. People aren't really nice here. 2 instances of having to say something (I suppose I didn't HAVE to, but chose to), once walking a frens son to school and 2 fat mothers walking side by side on the pavement, made the child have to walk on the road. I went mental at them. Then once when walking in an alleyway, and 4 woman walking along taking up the full space, I had to move out of their way. Then saw dog poo on the path. Absolutely disgusting. I called them disgusting for leaving it on paths where children walk.

again, this is for walking in the roadway against the flow of vehicle traffic, not a pedestrian walkway where people are walking in opposite directions in close proximity due to limited space.

I feel like this guy whenever I'm trying to walk somewhere uninterrupted and there are constantly people blocking my path, walking next to each other in my path or going the wrong way in my path. Keep in mind it's not about population density, but the prevalence of negligent NPC behavior like this.

Another spontaneous word I invented is the "twist-and-brush" when 2 people walk in opposite directions through a space not physically wide enough for them to pass though walking forwards, and so they both lean and twist away from each other but still rub against each other when passing. This is another thing I won't do and will turn 180 degrees and walk away to avoid, or literally walk sideways to avoid touching people. If I woman I don't mind does this to me, like for example, I am walking somewhere between a shelf and a support column in the store, I'll just freeze and open my palms like "okay, you go do that, I'll just wait."

>>81519483
Making sudden twisting and squiggling motions while walking is both physically and mentally jarring for me, and also completely unnecessary of others just watch their step and be courteous.

Without hearing someone speak, this is how you can figure out who's Japanese and who's a Chinese while living in Japan. The Chinamen block the sidewalks in large groups of poorly-dressed, loud, middle-aged things, while the residents make sure to give space so people can pass by them.

Everyone is suffering, it's no excuse.
This was in a middle class area, maybe lower middle class (the class system is daft, money doesn't make you any better or worse than others).

I always move regardless. The only thing that annoys me when walking is if someone is in front of me, usually a woman or a group of women, and they keep turning round to look at me as if I'm a creepy stalker just because I am walking behind them. I swear modern women watched so many horror shows and listened to so much misandrist propaganda, that they think every dude outside is a predator whose only interest is them kek. Normally I speed up and overtake women for this reason, but sometimes if I'm carrying heavy shopping it's not that practical especially if they are walking at the same quick pace as me.
The other worst thing is older boomers who eyeball you if you go to walk past them as if you are rude for it. But these same boomers will occasionally glance back at you if you walk behind them, as if to say "oh are we holding you up? Well you are rude just for existing" when I don't even look annoyed at walking behind them, they project their own thoughts as reality kek.
When I'm outside walking I never look behind me, it just wouldn't cross my mind to look behind me, even if I heard people walking behind me. Why do so many normies constantly look behind them when walking? It's rude and ridiculous
