They prepare you for the cold and harsh world. If they don't do that you'll be forever coddled by your mom. If they are themselves cold, harsh and don't give you proper guidance you'll become an insecure fuck fearing everything around you

Because they're 1/2 of the reason an offspring exists. If you make it then you oughta raise it.

A good father who is equally supportive and honest will help prepare you for reality and impart his life experience to you. While this advice will not always be relevant, you can help form your own mental maps of how to approach situations knowing that someone you trust experienced something similar previously.

My dad is a good man, but a pretty mediocre father since he was completely unable to relate to me as a person due to his framework of life experience being so foreign to mine. He grew up in a time where government paid him to get multiple degrees and he had more or less unlimited freedom. He was poor but was given everything he could have ever needed, including a MASSIVE monetary stipend from a family member that they lucked into. He couldn't understand the sheer insanity and hopelessness of post-modernity until I was already out of the house.

you need a fellow man in your corner to succeed in life. someone who can raise you up, and teach you how to be successful. fathers are supposed to do that, but it can be supplemented with friends, brothers, colleagues

Mine was flawed, but I'm still grateful he's there.
To answer your question, even my friends who didn't have dads always acknowledged that the absence of their dad, or the reason he was gone, taught them something and made a difference. We all usually have one, and whatever choices they make, it makes a difference, so you might as well try and make it a good one.
