We tend to treat old people here in the USA with respect, which is really odd if you consider that they are the cause of like 85% of our societal issues. Your nation's government? Old people. Your coworkers and your boss? Probably old people. Your parents? Out of touch and old, even if they are nice. Affordable housing construction? Naw, old people say build nothing anywhere ever. Increases taxes on the wealthy? Naw, old people have the money and don't want anyone else to have it.

Weird mix of token respect and neglect. You're supposed to like be polite with them, but you don't have to 'take care of them' like in Asian countries.
