I'm a bit pissed off, people downstairs just moved in and they have a noisy dog.

We feed raccoons on our balcony and have for many years now. The people downstairs seem a bit unlikeable. Anyways, we found some rocks on our balcony. They weren't there before.

We suspect they threw them up there because of the raccoons.

We've caught them looking up on our side poking around. So we think they don't like raccoons.

If it happens again, we absolutely are gonna go and yell at them. Sadly there's not much we can do because in many places it is actually frowned upon or even illegal to feed raccoons, which is absolute bullshit.

Sad too cause they just had some baby raccoons that come off, only to get scared off by their dog.

I don't get the hate for raccoons. This mindset really annoys me.

I feel you, OP. I feed the bunnies on my property. I wish I had some raccoon or red fox friends to feed but I think I live too close to the road.

wild animals, raccoons especially, dig through garbage bins and make a big mess. Your feeding them attracts them there, and I doubt you're feeding them enough that they won't dig through your neighbor's garbage bins. You're probably causing them problems by being a vermin magnet. Also they often carry diseases. You're putting their dog at risk too.

We feed them quite a lot. At least three different bins of cookies, hot dogs, cereal marshmallows, P&J sandwiches, etc etc.

I don't see how doing this puts their dog at risk. The raccoons only really come out by us to eat, it's not like they're gonna attack the dog lol.
Also sounds shitty, but honestly considering if indeed they did throw the rocks, I care a lot more about the raccoons than their dog.

if you have raccoons hanging around, and the dog gets into a scrape up with one, and the raccoon involved has a disease, then the dog is at risk for getting the disease.

Also, I don't think you can feed the raccoons so much that they won't also dive nearby dumpsters and trash bins as well. You are definitely causing problems for your neighbors by gathering wild animals to your balcony.

The raccoons are very easily scared. Just opening the door makes them break a run for it, and they ran too when the dog started barking. So I doubt that'd happen.

This is what I mean. I feel like there's a lot of very negative stigma, I don't like it.

But, noted as far as them gathering to other places too. I've read about how it can cause problems. I didn't know about that, I literally just saw them as cute and didn't see any issue with feeding them.

Lucky digits of truth. I also don't get it, raccoons are the friendliest wild animals in the world. In fact I find it weird that they haven't been domesticated pets for hundreds of years, they're far more intelligent than cats and most dogs. It's probably some sort of proof that we live in a simulation.

>dig through garbage bins
If something has been digging through your trash it's far more likely to have been the neighbour's dog or cats, or in the case of dumpsters it's more likely to have been junkies looking for cans and bottles to return for the deposit.

they are cute, but any congregation of wild animals in a single, human populated place is an issue. That's why there are laws against feeding wild animals.

>>81581180
OP gathering evidence against his neighbors would only end up incriminating himself. Since he is also on the wrong side of the law in this conflict, he cannot get the law involved and come out ahead.

For real. I'd love to have one as a pet someday. They're so cute, and quite smart. I particularly love how they can use their hands to open things and eat food.

Well, just on the raccoon situation, yes. However throwing rocks could damage things like the glass table we have out there. So that could be a separate matter.
But yes, I've read last night the raccoon thing is actually illegal, and what can happen is actually horrible. So best bet is that it blows over. I'd hate for pest control to get involved and they kill all the raccoons. That'd break me and my Mom's heart.

If these retards downstairs are throwing rocks at OP's balcony he can complain to the landlord. Or just complain to the landlord that the neighbour's dog is barking constantly and get them evicted.

depending on the state you live in, you can get a special permit for an exotic pet, and keep a raccoon as a pet. It would just be one raccoon though. Probably a better outlet for your raccoon love than feeding a bunch of random wild animals. If one of them has rabies then you could get in a lot of trouble for luring them into a neighborhood.

A girl I know found a baby raccoon and kept it for many years as a pet. This was in a very small town so she didn't have to worry about nosey neighbours complaining to wildlife control or whatever. I wish I'd done that.

Awww, so cute! Yeah it's wild to me in some states you actually can't have them, but in some states you can get a special permit like the other guy said. I've seen videos. You can actually teach them tricks. They're so intelligent, kinda wild actually.

We've had many neighbors move in. I don't think they've ever really noticed prior to this. One did get a bit annoyed since a couple pieces of food fell down to the ground, but that's about it.

What the hell kind of bullshit scenario is this? Are you imagining some special branch of the police department with detectives investigating who has lured wild animals into the suburbs?

if your neighbors are throwing rocks because of your raccoon activity, when the police ask around, they're going to hear about what you're doing. Doesn't have to be a rabies incident, the police coming around where you live for any reason will draw attention to what you're doing. It will just be a lot worse for you if there's a wild animal incident.

antagonizing the neighbors just barely within the bounds of the law could still draw police attention. The police might not be able to bust you for the jeetshaker, but they'll still come over to hear the complaint, and while they're there, they'll hear about the raccoons too.

complaining about the rocks will definitely get their attention though, and on your account not the neighbors'. rather than a fucking "maybe", reduced by that they instigated this shit and as such have a guilty conscience.
you're really wrong if you believe the po po are generally happy to be called out for neighborly disputes, they baseline hate whoever calls it in.

don't care about the jeetshaker, it's a funny idea. I'm just saying the raccoon feeder will lose in any situation where the neighborly conflict escalates. the neighbor might lose too, but i'm assuming OP wants to achieve a situation where he can feed raccoons in peace, more than he wants to antagonize his neighbors

Wow are you ever stupid. OP clearly wrote that he found rocks on his balcony and thinks the retards downstairs are throwing rocks at the raccoons. This would mean THE RETARDS ARE THROWING ROCKS AT OP's BALCONY WHEN OP ISN'T THERE FEEDING THE RACCOONS!
If you catch that on video the cops aren't going to ask "So just why are there raccoons on your balcony? You haven't been FEEDING them, have you? I'm placing you under arrest on suspicion of raccoon-feeding!"

All of this is beside the point because cops are useless. A better bet would be to show the video to the landlord and say "Hey these crazies downstairs are going to break our glass table, or smash one of the windows." (If the landlord thinks a stray rock could hit one of his windows that is VERY likely to have him evict these retards, or at the very least make him tell them to stop throwing rocks at the house.

op loses by default if he lets his neighbors bully him out of keeping the raccoons. if he bullies the neighbors away (or otherwise handles them e.g. more peacefully and effectively) the raccoons will come back eventually.
