I applied to be one once and during the interview the hiring manager would not shut up about how much more the company prefers hiring female waiters because if you're a girl, especially a cute girl, people are more likely to buy something if you suggest it (an alcoholic beverage, some special on sale, etc). Plus, people are more generous with tips towards women.
