feeling industrious/competent, or in other words, confident, is a psychological requirement for a happy life. how do we reconcile this with the fact that most people lack the talent to achieve this? confidence comes from being consistently rewarded for success. success is measured through other people, such as peers, role models, or competitors. do we practice selective permanence and forget that certain people/places exist so we feel better than we really are? but then how can we enjoy becoming better if we have no reference or roadmap for success?

Most people won't be happy and that's expected and intentional. You're not guaranteed happiness.

is it worth starting a life in a world where you won't be guaranteed happiness, and that the happiness you do get might be from others suffering in your place?

That's not a choice any of us get to make for ourselves. Much of your chances in life depend on the circumstances of your birth, so I'd only recommend making that decision for others when you have a good chance of giving them access to a happy life.

Nothing has a right not to suffer; suffering is inevitable because it's a requirement for any system complex and stable enough for continuous self-propagation. A being that could never suffer would blissfully destroy itself, unpurturbed by that inevitability. It is only because we tire that we avoid death by exhaustion. It is only because we thirst that we avoid death by dehydration. It is only because we feel existential terror when we contemplate our place in the world that we seek to elevate ourselves. There is beauty in suffering because it forms a vessel for relief and all the other things we can only experience in contrast to it.

but what if your circumstances at birth restrict you from using your suffering to your advantage
