If you feel like what you are going to do is impulse or otherwise unfavorable, sit down and wait.
The urge will subside.

Sitting down to wait is what I've been doing for 5 years. This kind of advice doesn't apply to most people here. They need to be encouraged to take some risks. Not stupid self destructive ones but ones with the potential to lead somewhere positive.

I mean impulsive and unfavorable situations, anon.
Standing still all your life is not good but sitting down and thinking for a couple of days when you notice doing something stupid is essential to preventing harm. Goes hand in hand with not stagnating. Stupid decisions can make you run in a circle, getting you nowhere.

I think your and my advice are both applicable but for 2 different kinds of problems.
I think indecision is the more common problem that robots have over impulsivity. Now with both kinds of advice in the thread, anons will be able to consider which type applies to them.

NTA, but they are one and the same. Many robots tend to be very neurotic and act impulsively to escape an emotion, or because of unfounded worries. Often this ruins connections with people or it harms their future/life by blowing off important tasks. On the flip side being neurotic means they avoid things out of fear too and overthink before acting.

People who act on impulse are not capable of self awareness, and those who are only do when pushed to extremes.
Your advice is effectively moot.

Im quite literately impulsive and sat down and thought about my actions.
Sounds impossible that people who by their nature act shouldn't be self aware about this reminding yourself of this actually works.
When i go too quickly i think "Am i making more mistakes or decisions than usual?" and if the answer is "yes" i stop and do something else for a bit.

I'd beg to differ.
If you train yourself enough you will catch yourself even fairly minor situations. The question turns into a subconscious observer and stops you from being too quick.
There is probably some bias but I'd take myself as an example. I never used to sit down and think but im doing it more often than ever and im acting less on impulse than before too. Ingraining this in your mind is possible and works.
