Honestly best thing I've learned to do in these situations is to just love your family, but don't attach yourselves to them. Every time I let my dad get attached to me he innevitably starts asking me for money to fuel his gambling addiction. You just gotta make a habit of steering clear of his problems and to not make them your problems considering the fact that even he doesn't wanna fix them, but just talking doesn't do any harm, it's nice to chew the fat with your old man from time to time, and going incommunicado helps nobody.
