I think it's the opposite of popularity. 4chan has been bleeding users for years to the extent the admin removed the unique ip counts for threads to mask the issue. What you're seeing with a shift in the political thought here is more to do with the mass exodus of users, leaving only the most stubborn or porn addicted on this website. That's why /pol/ also reflects the same shift, only the gooners who post racebait still frequent the board, and pol has always bled into other boards as is their culture so you still have the racebait of old but framed with a more leftwing belief system behind the user, hence the zohran threads spammed on every pink board. Leftist users are more accommodating towards pornography so they were less likely to leave over the years, sifting through gay porn and racebait isnt exhausting for them.
