I like seeing original content on here, I think it's lacking because of the user base. Seriously you have guys who are depressed posting frogs and anime all day. Bait threads will draw people out, but there just isn't much curiosity on 4chan.
I'm also not trying to sound pretentious here, but I can't see how you can blame the layout or the staff. Maybe there is a way to change how the site functions to encourage more OC, but I wouldn't know how to do that. And 4chan guys don't like anything on here being changed.

Yes, we absolutely can blame the moderation. There's a reason why you can report posts for low quality but the last time I saw a public ban with the red text was before Coronavirus because jannies and mods are lazy and outright malicious. Look at the state of /x/, for example. 75% of posters on there should receive a permaban but nah, it's ok for the majority of the board's traffic to be bots and underage Tumblr rejects I guess. Oh and I've observed the jannies actually going after OC to delete threads and ban posters if people are having too much fun.
