How was Palpatine able to secure the vote to become Chancellor when the majority of the Senate was being payrolled by the Trade Federation?
>because he controlled the Trade Federation
If Palpatine (under the name of Sidious) told (for example) Gunray to support the Senate vote for Palpatine wouldnt that have made Gunroy (and with it the entire Trade Federation) extremely suspicious (due to the fact that Palpatine spoke on behalf of Naboo)? It doesnt make any sense.

Only three people were eligible to be elected to that role. One was caught in a very public massive corruption scandal involving taking bribes from the trade federation (most of the Senate did behind closed doors), one was Palpatine, and one was a hardcore anticorruption crusader. Only Palpatine was electable because the first would cause people to lose confidence in the Senate and the last would expose many Senators. Palpatine won due to Senators wanting self-preservation.

Additionally he exploited the Senate's sympathies for Naboo, and was also chosen as he was the only representative eligible from there. Electing him made the Senate look caring.

That's the best part, most of that is cut from the film but is in the official information books. One of the two options never shows up in the film and the other had many of his roles cut for time.

Nobody knew that Palpatine was behind all of this, he worked through Dooku and when he died through Grievous
He also had the banking clan (((muuns))) under him

Though the film does state all the nominies. Bail Antilles (incorruptible), Ainlee Teem (notorious for corruption), and Seev Palpatine. Teem doesn't get a scene in the film at all though, and Antilles has many scenes cut out. I think they didn't want to focus on political drama too much so wrote it down instead.

Where do you get the idea from that the seperatists have a majority in the senate? If that were the case they wouldn't need to secede and could just achieve their goals democratically.

Don't think too hard about the prequels, they're garbage that only retards and children enjoy.

I don't think the trade federation had a majority, just enough votes to act as a blocking force, and Palpatine's emergency powers were sold as a way around that.
But it's been ages since I watched the prequels so my memories might be wrong.

This is gone over in detail in the Darth plagueis novel

Basically, Plagueis propped up the trade federation to exploit/do colonialism to poor worlds that couldn't defend themselves. When the population got riled up, the republic couldn't defend them because they didn't have a military and relied on the Jedi.

This continued on for many years, Plagueis finds Sidious and sees the potential in him to be a consummate politician. Sidious takes on the public face, manipulates both sides while taking a position as a principled moderate. As a result, he gets sympathy votes from the "good" people, he gets votes for not being a radical from the rich, he gets votes from people who have to toe the line with the trade federation because he's in the same position as them. The trade federation absolutely do not vote for him but they don't bankroll everyone

There's on situation where the trade federation wants to arm its vessels because pirates, also funded by Plagueis, keep attacking their shit, in exchange for taxing their trade. Naboo is being exploited by the trade federation and thus both voting for and against would make them look like they are fucking, so they abstain. People figure this out and it pisses them off, assassination attempts are all around, etc. The thing is, Palpatine and Plagueis manipulate events so that they win either way

Gunray is extremely suspicious originally of Sidious, until Sidious sends Maul to murder all his competitors, leaving him solely in charge of the trade federation while also absolutely terrified of Sidious
