So the "genuine suffering and sadness" that you've seen is from people far poorer then you are, and you're just as detached from it as someone in a first world country.

In any case, even in supposedly first world countries we have people leaving in tents on the sidewalks of major cities. Pic related is Vancouver B.C. in Canada. You don't have a monopoly on poverty and misery.
