The final redpill is that we have no free will. If the soul exists it is in the form of non sentient energy, so as far as we are concerned it doesn't exist. If god exists in the abrahamic sense then there is nothing we can do about our salvation since there is no real choice in anything we do. More likely is the possibility that god is also just living energy that isn't sentient and no salvation is required since our soul (non sentient energy) goes back to be part of him anyway to be put to some other purpose. There is no "you" in a vaccum, outside of you physical brain configuration, that can make decision without regard to your genetic and physical state (if you are hungry when you make the decision for example). We are all just dolls.

I always found that idea interesting, that there's a realer me, who's essentially a different person, that wanted this life for some reason.

That has no relevance to the topic of free will. You can be born with the ability to seek and aquire work ethic. You can be born with work ethic pre installed. You cam be born with no work ethic and without the ability to aquire it no mattet how much people try to train you. If you have work ethic it's because you are genetically able to. By the way I'm a college graduate with a job, so I have work ethic. But I take no credit for it.

In theory, you could predict the behavior of every single atom in the entire universe. In practice you can't. In theory, free will doesn't exist because everything can be calculated. In practice, nobody can calculate everything. So for all intents and purposes free will does exist.
