This is a bit of a loaded question, it depends.
Some people have said "bad people know that they're bad people and just don't care" but I don't necessarily think that method applies for everyone.
People can be bad people without thinking they're doing something wrong, take hitler for example, he probably thought of himself as a hero that was saving good people. Best thing you can do to be a 'good person' is make sure you don't choose to stay ignorant about things. Cause that causes problems for other people and can easily make you the asshole in any situation.
Though, good and bad isn't universal, its all about perspective, just do your best to not be an asshole.
