Anime is a medium for storytelling, not a genre. That's like saying "you shouldn't fuck with oil on canvas past age 27 bro we only do fresco now". Shitty weeb slop is no different than crappy American crime/legal/medical dramas that have like 10+ seasons because people use it as background noise.

This simply isn't true. Many anime are aimed at adult audiences and the medium caters to a broad range of genres that explore storytelling in a visually compelling and fun way. What most normies think of when they hear the word anime is Dragonball Z, Pokemon etc. This is like assuming all film is trash because you only know about Marvel movies. Both the anime and manga industries employ many talented illustrators, animators, writers and voice actors. Here is a presentation discussing an anime I have enjoyed in the past on a deeper level. I hope you'll see that there is more to this medium as with all art forms.
Sidenote: I highly reccomend Monster. A great watch/read with interesting characters and interactions.
