>>81728460My point is, I don't think the characters being killed off constantly is either entertaining nor good writing.
Their deaths serve no other purpose than to tug at your heartstrings, and the impact on the main character from these deaths is minimal.
>Oh well only the side characters died so it's fineNo it isn't when the side characters are literally more interesting and engaging to watch than your protagonist. That is a lapse in writing.
Just look what Toji did to the normiefag anime sphere. He is the singular reason the anime even became popular, and his death was absolutely meaningless.
>Umm acktually it helped develop gojo's plotHis whole plot could've done without the death of toji, and if anything, him surviving whatever deus ex machina gojo threw at him would've elevated his status even more and perhaps set up a more interesting/epic death later in the series. Not like any of it fucking mattered, because gojo died as well, so they all fuckng died for no reason at all.
It's the same problem as with attack on titan. Yes, people die in wars and scenarios like this, but for it to be a meaningful death (in terms of story) it needs to be more than what these shows are doing. They're basically milking your empathy and betting on the fact you're going to click "watch next episode" because you're hoping your favorite character isn't actually dead, and by the time you realize that they are, the plot has moved on in an unrelated fashion drawing you in again. Sure, it works, but it is NOT good writing, if you have to rely on unrelated character deaths to move the plot forward.
