>I'll sacrifice myself to myself to save you from myself, and if you don't believe me you will burn in a terrible place (that I created)
How the fuck did this bullshit even catch on? It's not even a good story.

It's kind of scary that Yahweh is described similarly to the Devil.

I don't think Jesus was actually God incarnate, I think Jesus was simply the best example of humanity. When he was baptised by John, God states that he is pleased with this one. There are many instances of this happening. I think Jesus was just a regular man who lived righteously.

They really believe that. It's prettt dumb until you understand that the jewish god has a servant dragon that is allowed to accept human sacrifices on his behalf named yahweh and jesus is supposed to be the dragonborn as he's born of the dragon yahweh in spirit alone, although of completely mortal flesh. Dragons used to be real. Now it all seems so schizophrenic when it's disconnected from the original stories

i'm sure having "le faith" generates energy for God because of the despair when faith is lost or resistance to losing hope when it is not.

>How the fuck did this bullshit even catch on?
Christianity was a jewish sect that became a popular slave cult in Ancient Rome. It did this primarily by making virtues of the very things that slaves were already required to do (Blessed are the meek, Matthew 5.5-9, et al.) and also by being a form of proto-communism. (It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle that for a rich man to enter the gates of heaven. Mark 10:25)

As Rome had a great many slaves and plebians who were forced by circumstance to be meek and poor, the idea that there was a god who thought these things made them better people (instead of just unfortunate losers) really struck a chord. Eventually it became so popular that Emperor Constantine converted to christianity after having some wacky "vision", and eventually Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire. Sadly, this cultural change caused the rapid decline and fall of the Roman Empire. But by this time Christianity had been spread to all corners of the western world.
